I'm a long time guitar player and though I hate to admit it a one time Ovation basher. But no more! I recently came into possesion of a 2002 Custom Legend Model#1869, and I love it!!!. I've owned Martin, Gibson, Guild, Larrivie, you name it, I've probably had at least one. I've even owned a few Ovations over my 40 years of playing. I got tired of looking for the HOLY GRAIL of guitardom, and low and behold I found mine!! I could not be happier!! I have also trolled the various music boards on the net for the last several years, checking out the acoustic guitar forumsand as I'm sure you already know: there seems to be a bias against Ovation product. Well okay, if you don't like it don't buy it, but please don't assume that I am some sort of a goof because I did. I happened upon this board by accident and found it refreshing that you folks seemed far less judgemental. Sorry for the rant. Now on to my question. Other than shallow bowl to deep bowl comparisions, how much different is my Custom Legend from the Al DiMeolla(sp) model? Thanks for your time, hope to get to know some of you people here on the net.

It also features a cut-a-way which your regular CL might not. When it comes down to brass tacks, the AD-II is "just" Custom Legend with a little more bling and an extra feature or two. Oh... and it also has a fancy carved, ebony bridge. I asked about the differences at a factory tour. Rick Hall said that because it is supposed to be the "top of the line" a little extra attention to detail is spent on the production line. Given Ovations tradition of consistancy, that might not mean a whole lot. The "bling' being applied Old & New Beauty and the Bling

The neck profile is slightly different on the ADII and the bracing is very slightly modified, again reflecting Al's input. Don't ask me the difference, I don't know, but this is what I have heard from those who should know. Welcome to the club.....
