As you know (or should), the reissues (all of the models) were outstanding...back then, I had gotten the 47RI and the 1687-8. This time, I got a -2(red). Got it in Friday just before I left to Tampa...11pm Friday I've finally got a couple of minutes to play it. Exciting, as close to my early 1687's as possible...maybe better, as some of us believe the re-engineered pre-amp is better than the original. Put it next to the 47RI. This is an outstanding opportunity, for only a short time...not many available and Al has them all. As they say, "Snooze, you lose."

I got the Ute, but was drooling over the other 3 special editions. The #47 would have been the ultimate, but I decided to go with the OFC instead. All the time I spent looking at the pictures, I never realized that the 1687RI came in red.

They were supposed to go to Europe...some may still since he ships world wide. Interested...move fast, especially for the -2 red; my wife said "it's gorgeous" - plays even better than it looks. This is his newsletter: Now some exciting news I have purchased the remaining inventory of Adamas 1 reissue 1687-8 and -2 guitars. As you probably know Fender has purchased Kaman Music Corp and has been slowly liquidating the inventory of the USA line. When I found out that this may happen with the Adamas 1 guitars I acted fast. These guitars are the same specs as the 30th anniversary models and were built for the European market. Well they never made it there but we do ship internationally. From my talks with Rick Hall, Ovation USA is morphing into a custom shop operation. There are no immediate plans for shutdown but guitars are built on an order basis. He told me that his plans for the Adamas line was to bring it back to the exclusive guitar of it's beginnings where the bowls are hand laid fiberglass, the braces are all weighted and rated, the original tone ring attachment system, laser vibrometer read outs etc etc etc. So it is probably safe to say that these guitars will be the end of an era. here are the specs: 1687-8 Adamas I Reissue The Adamas I features the original design carbon-graphite top along with detailed ornamentation such as a carved peghead scroll, carved bridge, and elaborately decorated sound holes. This model also included Ovation's signature stereo preamp package. The 1687 will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2005. SPECS Body Type: Deep Non-Cutaway Top: Unidirectional Carbon Graphite Bracing: Quintad Scale Length: 25 1/4" Neck Finish: Satin Fretboard: Resin-Impregnated Walnut Fret Inlay: Original Adamas I Design Maple Bridge: Carved Walnut Rosette: Original Adamas I Design 13 piece Pickup: Original Patended Pickup Nutwidth: 1 11/16” Machines: Gold Schaller Case: 9158-0 PRE-AMP STEREO FET The built in FET Preamp reduces hum and line noise, giving the guitar virtual immunity to feedback. Separate volume and tone controls are mounted at the waist of the instrument for ease of adjustment and quick visual reference while playing. I have several available in blue and only 3 in red. The red ones were never offered to the USA market and are very rare.

I wanted to offer it to customers on my mailing list first before I opened it up to the OFC and ultimately whomever else. if you are interested call me for a price. This is a great deal. I have put them up on e bay but for more than the OFC member price. This price will be for a limited time only. I did not want to cause mass panic with this but these are the last of the 30th anniv guitars that are to be made. when they are gone. they are gone.

I'm not really into that carving thing, but if I were, one would be on the way already. You guys better start counting change from the couch. These shouldn't last long.

There are difference ratings from guitar to guitar...from what I had been told, 90-93 is probably the average for the 1687, yet I have one rated 101. Compared with the other one which is a 93, the 101 is also great, just a little brighter.

SOOOO tempting… I have been able to stay in the house with my new 2080… another Adamas right now and I'd be sleeping outside. Maybe if Al could include a bonus extra-large doghouse with every purchase?
