Ok, laying myself out to be kicked and stepped on. Better now than after spending the time to build something and then get discouraged.

Actually, I like this shape and the Plywood Proto plays and feels comfortable both sitting and standing.

My intention is to make Semi-hollows and some Solids.

What do you all think of the shape?

Woody Proto

Woody,

Down here it's illegal to 'fin' sharks!!!

I personally don't care for the design, but I'm an ol' fart...

Well, you asked…

At first look, it didn't appeal to me either, but I give you great credit for trying something that is truly unique. I'm afraid that you will now permanently have to live with "fin" jokes. (Didn't Jimmy Buffett have a "fin" guitar at one point?)

Maybe a different color than black on the outside would steer our thoughts away from fins? Blue or Red might look nice?

Is that a strap button at the bottom? Does that work ok in that position? It seems like the strap would have to wrap under the bottom and then up in an odd manner?

I think it has potential. but, IMHO you are not quite there yet…

Hey! I'll be the voice of reason here...

Is it comfortable to play?
Do you think that you will like the balance once you use Real wood?
Could this become a trademark shape, like the Explorer, Warlock, Flying V, or Breadwinner?

Back to the real question... Is it comfortable and do You like it?
I could become an Original Licensed Woody design! :p

I think the shape is pretty creative.
I don't know about using black for the burst.
I know there is a buyer out there somewhere in e-bay land.

And... especially after this last weekend... that trek thing really hurts. I mean... really.
p.s. - I'm gonna get me a copy of that!

Brad - I Googled the Star Trek Logo and found that, couldn't resist (resistance is futile). I have been a fan since the sixties (but I only dressed as a Klingon for one Halloween party) so shut up

Losov - It fits in a standard rectangular case.

AJ - Note taken.

Iffy - Give in to the Drum Maker and not the Baron...

Shape wise it really is comfortable. I tend to use my forearm to steer the guitar and keep my wrist near the bridge.

Can it be played sitting down, and will it balance without a strap?

Why worry about the finish, burst or otherwise? Get the body shape right first.

Have you looked at http://www.elutherie.org ? There are lots of Breadwinner ripoffs there. Except they're ripoffs of the Klein. Klein ripped off the Breadwinner now people are copying him.

I get a single-bit axe from that shape. Actually, you could do something on the whole axe theme that might be cool. Single-bit, double-bit...go for a long-neck baritone electric and call it a halberd...

I love it, but then again I like things that are not "normal". It's one of the reasons I have a Breadwinner. :)

My only suggestion is that the treble string holes are a bit too close to the edge of the body. If you moved that edge a little further away it would help aesthetically (and possibly resonance-wise? I admittedly know zero about that aspect).

But very cool IMO.

The blunt end... the semi-circle that points to the floor as you hold it seems out of balance with the large shark fin. How would it look in another color (non-burst) I wonder?

Sure Woody , any time..hey , I`ve got an idea , lemme talk to Gregg fer a minute ..

Hey Gregg , I could imagine a classical player`s position , when seated , the strings would be very close to the thigh , when axe is slanted upwards , that could be rather comfortable , great for longtime playing , actually , that little gem might be just something for you , if Mike places the pu`s strategically , fer ex. , dividing the string according to octaves / notes ( usually bridge pu`s are centered around a 1/4 octave ), when employing a slanted bridge pu , centered at D / G strings , than E / A could be a tad sharp ( bringing out overtones ) , and B /E as well ( causing x-tra zing ) , does that make sense ?..
After all , you know all about 4th`s , 5th`s and the this and the that.., what dayathink ?..could it be done ?
I think that sunburst would be nice , as long as Mike does not follow the Gibson " blob " philosophy , I could imagine :
Following rim (going into center ), dark/ black , flowing into a light/dark red , going into blond , slightly stained.

Mike , let`s see if we can get this show on the road , I think it`s an interesting concept..

Vic

..I wonder if Al could sell a bunch of `em , making us all rich , I could do with a new watch.. :)
