Great guitar. X braced, shiny bowl, inlaid rosette. What do you want to know?

Ovation did a reissue of it back in 2006.....

I've seen only very few sunburst top shiny bowls. Very rare.

What's the point of 3 planks of wood? Wouldn't one solid top have a nicer, warmer sound?

If I remember correctly, the three planker was due to the supply of spruce they had on hand... cut specifically for the Kaman aero division. (Used in laminating heli rotor blade's... Beal?)

That's the story from the Book. As far as darkbark's question, I think the sound on my 3 planker reissue is incredibly good.

I found it at the guitar center in Attlboro Mass.
It was hanging in the electric section, way up high.Dried out,and all the hip guitar salesmen sneered at it and called it the "plastic" guitar.
They said it had been there a long time.I paid 500 bucks, and shamed them into throwing in a new case.
Took it home and yes,a 1968 Balladeer,Searial # A-57,and yes,sunburst.

Well, I've never played one so I'll take your word for it. Maybe someone will bring one to the next gathering.

Wow! Stunning. I especially like how the burst works with the third plank. It obviously takes the stain differently from the outside planks.
