Location: Cincinnati Ohio | Allow me to introduce myself ,I'm new to the guitar,been a drummer for about 6 years and figured it's time to expand my horizons.
I'm a 48 year old father of 3 with a great wife.
I'm a paramedic of 22 years and decided bows the time.
Ok back to why I joined,obviously the name ovation brought me here ,I've researched at least 8 different types of guitars and decided the ovation was for me.
The ovation I have my mind set on getting is a CC24,I'm asking for your opinion.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Most of the USA Ovations are better. You chose one with a laminated (plywood) top. Any particular reason you chose it? If you're going for price vs. sound, then it's probably fine. If you want a good sounding guitar that will age well, open up and have some bass, go with a solid top guitar with a deeper bowl. |

I really like the feel of the mid shallow bowl.I didn't like the sound at all of the shallow bowl that's why I chose not to go with a cc44 |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | If we are talking about a New Ovation, it would be the 1771 LX Balladeer. ( $700 )
Or a 1777 LX Legend. ( $900 ) make sure they give you a case!
But the general advice would be to buy something used, since the economy sux and it's a buyer's market.
There are alot of nice guitars going for cheap on evilBay, and there are some good deals here in the 'For Sale' section.
If you are buying from a store, buy whatever feels good to you.
If you are buying evilBay it is good to know what you are trying to find.
The folks here are good for advice. Some are much better than me.

Every Ovation product is a great value for the $. The solid top Ovations will have a slightly to greatly better sound. The laminated tops are more stable with changes in temperature and humidity and are therefore better suited to harsh use, like taking it camping or letting your kids' friends play it.
The best bang-for-the-buck would be a used 1778T or 2078T. Or, a nice 30 year old Balladeer. If you want to buy new, the choices are endless and the price range is wide.
The laminated top is not a bad choice, and if the price fits then it is an excellent guitar for the money. What folks here will tell you, accurately, is that for a little bit more money you can get a nicer guitar that is well worth the increase in price.
The sellers on this forum have a stellar history. Or call Al at LostArtVintage, who is one of the owners of this site. |

You were warned! Go with a USA made deep contour. Or at least a used deep round bowl... Ya won't regret it!
If ya plug in, then your options have just have increased dramatically. |

I second the used market. I just bought a 1977 Balladeer 1621-4 off the bay. I haven't recieved the guitar yet but the pictures and answers to my questions would place this guitar in excellent condition. I paid $325 with hardshell case and $40 for shipping and insurance. That is probably less than you are planning on spending for just the guitar. Good luck satisfying your GAS.

if you can find a musique store and try some Ovation,see my liste.I juste baught a CS257 and this guitar once plug in is great and stay's in tune real good low action and all and is not expensive,but its not a great unplug guitar
its up to you to ask many question youll find some great folks here

The case that is supposed to come with that is the GOOD one too...
Leather handle, 'Ovation' printed on the inside fur.

| Funny that you cited that particular K-1111 auction. I don't think he's intelligent enough to be "sleazy" - he just seems to be a dumb nickel-and-dimer trying to be too smart by half. I have been dogging him to rent himself a clue since about 5 auctions ago and knock off the insane gimmicks and gotchas. He used to have a "$50 off final price coupon", but he finally gave up on that silly idea. Why does the economy shipping option take 2 weeks (10 business days) for him to ship the guitar? That's ridiculous - he expects to be paid extra (premium shipping) not to procrastinate for 2 weeks. What does he do with the guitar during those 2 weeks? I told him that if he ever figures out how to run a straightforward auction, someone might finally bid, but until then, we'll just keep watching and laughing. Charles Darwin would have loved eBay - all of the various states of human de-evolution on public display. |

Location: Vernon CT | Welcome Alan! A lot of good advice above. I also am a fan of buying used right now. I currently own 3 quality used USA made ovations I bought that cost me less combined then my 1778LX mid bowl I bought New.
I don't think you have mentioned if you will be playing strictly unplugged or plugged in. If you will be playing unplugged then the deeper the bowl the better Acoustic tone. If you will be playing plugged in mostly, then a mid to shallow bowl will work for you. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Howdy Alan. Be prepared for a lot of good natured drummer jokes. As a banjo player, I can tell you that most of the jokes are harmless, and most of 'em are pretty darned funny too.
The contour bowl just might be the best choice for you. I have never had any trouble with the deep round bowl, and it is very possible that you would get used to it quickly. If you want to play unplugged, the shallow or supershallow bowls sound very thin.
There is nothing wrong with a Celebrity if you really want a new guitar and that's all you can afford, but used is the way to go if you want to get the best bang for your buck. I have bought several guitars from some of the long-standing members here and I can honestly say that if they advertise the guitar as pristine, that is exactly what it will be. If there is even the slightest problem with a guitar, even minor pick scratches, they will describe and photograph it in detail. I NEVER would buy a guitar sight unseen before, but after my first purchase here, I was so satisfied I would never hesitate to buy from these folks again. As a matter of fact, I am expecting delivery any minute now of a guitar I bought from a member, and I'm TRYING not to drool and jump out of my skin in anticipation! |
