Hey guys,
I've been recently looking for a great Ovation 12 string guitar for performances. I just graduated from high school and I have around a grand to blow on one of these masterful guitars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers :)

Welcome Narssistyx. My favorite is the 1758, but the 1615 comes in a close second. Both can be had for less than your budget.

Congratulations on your graduation!
In answer to your question, I think Ovation makes the nicest playing 12s, especially for live performance, so it's hard to go wrong.
Of course this one would be a great choice... :D

Go with the rebuilt Legend. A braced for a bit more bottom end, and since you'll be using it for performance, it's got the p/u and preamp that the 1118 doesn't have....

IMHO and many others on this site Ovation makes the best 12 strings. You can't go wrong with just about any, USA made Ovation you find. There are definitely some that aretop "choices" here on this site. All that have been mentioned above are quality 12'ers. Personally the 1758 is mine.

Oh and Welcome to the site. Stick around and you will learn a lot and meet some great people!!

You may be able to find an Adamas 12 string in that price range. Stuart had one not too long ago.

Both are great guitars. The Legend will sound better to you while you're playing it. The Elite (1758) will sound better to somebody standing 6 feet if front of you. The Elite will also have slightly more volume overall.

I've got both in 6 strings. They sound different. The Elite is more even, the Legend has more bass. Which is better? Damned if I know. You're probably going to eventually have to own both to make a decision.

I'd buy the rebuilt Legend. It's going to give you a better sound, to you, while you're playing it.But it's my personal opinion. Asking which is better is just going to get you a lot of personal opinions with no right answer for you.....

First of all, welcome to the club...

I recommend the 1758...I have been playing them for live performance's since 1988 and cannot say enough about how wonderful they sound and how stylish they look to the audience. I always get positive comments from the audiences about the great looks and tone of the Elite 12. I have never had any problem with hearing the guitar from my perspective as a player and my audiences have never had any problem hearing the guitar either: plugged in or acoustic...the OP-24 electronics sound fantastic plugged in and the guitar is responsive and alive...and it is a cannon...
I have played and owned most of the 12 strings made by Ovation and Adamas including the Legend...great guitar but I personally give the Elite 12 1758 the nod for a performance 12 string. They are regularly available on both EBay and Craigs list for around $750...I just bought a mint 1987 Black (-5) 1758 for under $600 buy it now...Best wishes...

I have a pre-ME 1598 (Ovation label on the head stock) from Patch and it's a great 12er. If the above git is in very good condition, it's a decent deal.

The 1598 SMTs aren't mentioned much here, but I'll keep mine until I'm prepared to jump into the 'deep pool'. It's loud, expressive and as easy to play as any 12er I've tried.

Here's hoping you'll find what will please ya...

They are very close. I have a W598 also smooth top adamas. They very shimmering sounding.

Narssistyx,
+1 to BT717's comment that "you can't go wrong with just about any USA made Ovation you find" and it is good to compare everything that is available.
However, for future reference, it is not good form to email someone that you want to purchase their guitar and then not respond to emails and obviously continue shopping for other options.
There are a lot of fantastic Ovation 12s in your price range and you are bound to be happy with whichever one you choose. ;)
