Me? Two kids. 14- and eight-years old. Diana (14) and Alexander (Alex, 8). Many of you met them at the "OFC Get-together in NJ - 2009" (whose thread got hijacked by an unfortunate OFC marriage inventory...did I already mention that?) this past weekend. Who and how many up-and-coming OFC'lings are out there? And what should they be called? OFC'lings? OFCpups? OFC'ettes? (OFC'ettes, could be pronounced like: "offsets" -- might work.) So, I vote for "OFC'ettes" pr. "offsets."

Number One's a doc who's married to an FBI agent. Our second One is an advertising queen. The next one is one of the few and the proud ... but also a very talented singer/songwriter. Go listen to The Hardest Things on my ning page. He got a record deal out of that one. Number Four is an OFC'r. Been to several OFC events. Played on OFC Member's Night Out #1. Also #3. Has an iDea guitar and made a guest appearance in a recent LostArtVintage newsletter. Also learned the mandolin. Listen to him on Nowhere Man and Wagon Wheel on my ning page. Our baby is 17 and puts up with our music but doesn't play ... but he does play quarterback as well as anybody within a couple of hundred of miles.

Both started guitar after leaving for college (I didn't play much when they were growing up.) Both have Ovations from me, although the oldest is a radical and bought her own Ibanez without consulting me. She lives with a drummer. I just remembered that the other one's boyfriend borrowed my Balladeer.

I have a son and while it was interesting to help bring him into the world and spend the first few weeks with him, I am also glad that I was not the one who raised him from that time forward. I met him again about 20 years later and we keep in touch, but that's about it. He has a son now as well and is doing everything in his power to be a part of his life. That gene obviously skipped a generation. Lisa and I periodically let ourselves be exposed to friends kids.... best birth control there is. Nothing against kids... I guess I was one once... just never got the "urge" to make any on purpose.

There are too many influences that parents can't control, so we shouldn't really take all the blame for the failures or the credit for the successes. After our baby delivered her college valedictorian address last month (blatant brag), I was asked many times about the credit for her success. I had to admit that I wish I knew.

She's a very good flutist (floutist?) and has been taking guitar lessons for a year that she pays for herself. She bought herself a 2078T last summer. Second is Sara, who turns 17 in a couple of weeks. You've seen her pictures here on occasion. She plays a 1778T Red Flame, and sings and also plays keyboard. She'll be a senior in HS next year. Third is Rob, 13, who is a very excellent violinist and a learner on mandolin. He is a very good composer, too. You can hear several of his classical compositions on our myspace, link below. "Double Black Diamond", "Chase Through the Museum", "Night in the Forest", and "Dog's View of a Walk". No grandkids yet. But Amie is a nanny to a 19 month old, and you can see it in her eyes that she wants kids of her own.

While in college she learned to play guitar and is pretty good at it. She has a djembe too and is a wonderful singer. My sons, Chris and Adam, are 22 and 17, and will be seniors in their respective college and high schools. Both are drummers. Chris dabbles with guitar and has a theremin too. The boy took up guitar at winter break and already is making great progress. I have to grin as I watch him. He can't walk by the guitar without picking it up. Fun stuff. Just 2 more years and the college bills will be a thing of the past.

He will be taking 2 summer school classes in July, BUT, claims he has learned his lesson and if the last Half of his 3rd trimester is any indication, He has. The next 3 years will be an interesting journey!!

The nice thing was that we agreed that they would have to "finance" half the bill for themselves. Daddy was the bank. So now I actually get monthly checks from each of them for the next 10 years. Just hoping I live long enough to get it all back.
