Jeff...I live in betweeen Sydney and Brisbane so I'm no authority...the Harbour Bridge climb in Sydney is pretty spectacular so I'm told.

Jim, Muzza & Richard are the Queenslanders so they'll have an idea of what to look out for in Brisbane.

I'm always in need of a guitar mule.

Hmm... Bluebird, VXT, TBolt, Collings....

Jeff, is she flying into Sydney or Brisbane?

I could use a guitar mule too, but I think AJ's need is greater.

The Gold Coast (just South of Brisbane) has some great theme parks if she likes that sort of stuff: Movie World, Dream World, Sea World, Wet 'n' Wild, White Water World.

There is good hiking in the Blue Mountains West of Sydney (tell her to hire an emergency beacon and take a mobile phone so the rescuers can find her if she gets lost, we lose a couple of people every year). Beautiful scenery.

Sydney has nice beaches, but a little cool for swimming at this time of the year. The Gold Coast beaches are still a tad cold, but OK for the hardy. Brisbane has no beach :-( but is only an hour from the Gold Coast and slightly further to the Sunshine Coast.

Some nice scenery in the hinterlands of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast (1 hour North of Brisbane) including the Glass House Mountains.

It's about 6 hours from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains if she likes skiing, but the slopes are likely to be disappointing by US standards, although it is the peak of the season right now.

Noosa Heads National Park is an idyllic walk/jog. If her visit coincides with a significant swell, the surfing can be world class. Alexandria Bay (deep in Noosa National Park) is an unofficial 'clothing optional' beach.

Fraser Island - world's largest sand island. 4WD up the beach and all over the island. Stradbroke Island - which could be considered Brisbane's ocean beach - is a more accessible version.

Glasshouse Mountains, as mentioned by Richard, are pretty surreal (leftover cores of ancient volcanos) and you can climb some of them, I believe.

I also agree with Richard that the Sunshine / Gold Coasts hinterland are both very scenic.

I'm not sure that an American would want to come all the way to Australia and go to the very much American styled theme parks of the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast does, however, have some world famous surfing breaks - Burleigh Heads, Kirra (currently under a huge sandbank) and Snapper Rocks - home to mens world surfing champions, Mick Fanning ('07) and Steph Gilmour ('07 + '08)

Ocean water temperature is currently about 19 degrees Centigrade around Brisbane. Not sure what that is in Neanderthal temperature. But you can still swim in it without a wetsuit. (I personally choose to use a wetsuit at this time of year, coz I'm ON the water, not IN it. And I'm a Wooss.)

I think she's going into Sydney and then off to other points.

I'm just going to cut and paste all this to her and see what she thinks... she might be willing to be a mule? (It's kinda short notice at this point) She'll get a laugh regardless... and I'll let you know!

Thanks feller's...

Alice Springs is a looooonnnnngggg way from Brisbane or Sydney. Think San Francisco to Dallas, but with a tiny airport. Uluru (Ayers Rock) is half a days drive from Alice and other things worth seeing involve similar drives.

We need a sarcasm tag on this board, for those who don't recognize it when they see it...

John, not everyone's had the pleasure of meeting you and finding out what a sincere and pleasant person you really are...

I would never accuse Waskel of being sarcastic.

And we heard you the first time.

I didn't pick the sarcasm because I've had people say that seriously. I didn't know that Wabbit had passed Geography for Americans.
