In my continued search to find "more" musicians in the area to play/Jam with I had an interesting "answer" to my most recent C.L. ad.
My ad states I am looking for musicians between mid 30's to mid/late 50's.
The E.M response I receive fron a "women" states:
"Bob sounds like a bit of an older name (dont hate my honesty hah) but do you mind if I ask your age/age range?" Geezzz!!!!! Now my name is old!

Anyway, I googled her, found her Myspace and besides haveing a great voice (Think Amy Lee from Evenescence) she's pretty cute to! Unfortunately she could be my daughter! :p
And life goes on............... :)

I search every so often and find requests for metal/etc., with a bunch of terms I never heard of.
The other day someone even older than me asked about what I liked to play. I responded with stuff from my college years. He said "like the Highwaymen" and some other group I never heard of. He must have thought I went to college in the 50s instead of the 70s. It's tough finding musicians that match.

The current most popular name at the hospital where my wife works is Isabel. Everything old becomes new.

Let’s see . . .

I’m approaching my late 50s, the drummer is mid-40s, the lead singer and director is early 40s, the bass player is early 30s, the keyboard player is early 20s, the alternate keyboard player is at least in his mid 70s, the horn player is late 40s, the flutist is still in her teens, and the other singers range from early 20s into their early 50s. No wonder our selections are all over the place.

Mark, the Highwaymen was a group consisting of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristopherson from the 80's.....

I run into 'Kids' (20's and 30's) named Dylan, Gracie, Tyler, Alice, Melanie, Alex, Jethro...
Not to mention the Stevie's, Tiffany's, Tranquility's, Serenity's, Shanti's, Shakti's, etc...

Like Wow, which Dead show were you conceived at? And does your Mom have a Medical Marijuana Card?

There is another group in the folk genre known as the Highwaymen. They scored a No. 1 hit in 1961 with Michael Row Your Boat. Steve Trott, one of the original members, is currently a sitting judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Boise, Idaho.

Mark, I guess this dates us.

 I'm trying to figure out the unfortunate part. She's young, cute, and sings nicely. As long as she's not 14 it sounds like good fortune. Unless she's psycho.

Brad, you found the Highwaymen I was talking about. I forgot about Kristofferson's group. It was good to see that they were famous only 10 years before I was in college. I thought it was more like 20. I'm not any older than the Eagles, or at least not much, and lots younger than the Beatles or the Stones.

Willie Nelson put it best when he was asked on his birthday how it felt to be 70 years old.

He said ... "I feel like I outlived my dick".

Is "doofus" the correct spelling? I've always wondered about that. OMA, I thought "Shakti" was a band assembled by John McLaughlin that plays eastern-styled music.
Most of my favorite musicians that play anything resembling metal are older than I. As for the local bands, I think they'd get more work if their music was heavier. Just check out the lists of songs on the various Rock Band-styled games.

Probably right about Shakti being a band... It is also the name of a coupla young women I've met.

People name their kids after people that inspire them.
So you will notice a trend in names that come from Musicians, Actors (or actor's Characters), Authors, Novels, and Names from Songs that influence Stoned Parents.
And you can often match those names to certain time-periods, at least by the decade.
Hence, if you meet some poor kid named Adulus, Levon, or Frodo... Blame the parents.

I met a girl whose name on her Driver's License was Crispy Lee Critter.

...is when a grandchild says to his grandma, "Grandma, do you know your arm muscles are on upside-down?"
(It was NOT me--my grandson Wayne's only 10-months-old and can't talk......yet. ;) :D )

I can tell I'm getting old when I wake up every morning and it hurts. Fortunately the pain also lets me know I'm still alive...

For the most part, I have no interest in playing what the younger people accept as music. Oh, I could play it. I could have played it when I was about six months into learning guitar. That's the problem.

Does that make me old? Well, I already know I'm old. Another clue isn't gonna hurt anything.

Similar here... 'cept I tend to notice the once-in-awhile when it DOESN'T hurt. More of monumental occasion.
