| It's been quite in the Atlantic this 'cane season up until now. Looks like the storms are ready to march. Get what ya need now before the mad rush later on. Good luck and stay dry!  | |||

| I know this isn't a 'cane survival/prep site, but I was PM'ed 'bout some preps and I'll share my response. "I'm a prep nut! But here's my 'short' list besides the items you mentioned. Ya can't have too many flashlights! Generator to power fridges/freezers/fans. I have an electric start due to an old shoulder injury. Even Patty could start it if need be. Plus I store no less than 30 gallons of gas with Sta-bil. I've ran my gen set for three hours two to three times a 24 hour period and had good success in saving our perishable/frozen foods. In fact I let two of my neighbors use it during my 'down time'. Proper sized extension cords to run inside from the gen set. Propane for post-storm grill cooking. I have five 20 #ers and a large 100# large tank. Battery digital TV (I need to get a new one) and a radio or two, shortwave is nice also. Small batteries and more batteries. I've been stocking up on recharagables and a quality charger. Plus I have three Optima 12 V deep cycles batts in the boat I could use with adapters. Adapters to fit your 'tronics and small lights to DC power. Water and more water! Since I have a swimming pool, I purchased a quality water filter for cooking and brushing teeth besides that water I keep on hand. TP and more TP. It's one item many forget. I also have several NATURAL sponges for when I run out. Have some chlorine for sanitation purposes. Plastic bags that fit the commode/five gallon bucket. Go to Ace and buy their small (I think it's a gallon), but quality pump sprayer. Adjust the nozzle to the finest mist possible and use cool water if possible. When you have no air or power to run fans, just spray each other for refreshing heat relief. Works great! Prep the exterior of your home if possible. This can get very expensive. What I do is just keep my trees trimmed to minimize structure damage. Remove any and all outside objects that can become missiles. I also insure that my strapped-to-trailer boat is topped with gas (think gen set), fill the bait wells and the bilge with water. Have an evacuation plan. Never let your vehicles get below half a tank in case of a short notice evac. Geeze, I could go on and on. But the above are items that can make your life bearable if the power goes out and the water supply is contaminated or disrupted. I know I've missed some areas, so if ya have any more Qs, LMK." P.S.: I have to add a caution learned the hard way. Just prior Gabrielle in '01, I parked my SUV outside up close to my garage door for protection. Well, no one warned me about the venturi effect that this would create. The door was sucked OUTWARD and had to be pounded back in and secured during the worst stage of the 'cane.
