Christmas comes in September! The Custom Shop CF Martin OM28V arrived yesterday. I have owned (and own) many fine guitars and have played and heard others that sounded really nice, but I have never owned or heard one as fine as this guitar. It has to be heard to be believed. I am blown away. As nice as my previous OM28V sounded, it hardly compares to this guitar. The Addy top and Golden Era Bracing do their magic well. I could go on and on but just look at the pic's and read the spec's here:

OM-28V Custom PB Model

Although it has it's mint condition original hardshell, It now resides a Calton Case from my former OM so it is well protected.

Here are a couple of pic's:

Violetta fell in love with this from the auction pic's and it's my Christmas gift from her...she loves the wood stuff...and endures my GAS fueled craziness...pretty special.

I apologize for the pic quality: I will try to get better pic's if we ever get SUN in SW VA again...not looking good right now...

Enjoy!

Beautiful guitar, Mike. Someday, I'm going to have an OM sized Martin, too, probably a 42 model with the abalone inlay and electronics.

Fantastic, just enough bling to make it POP. A fingerpickers dream with that wider nut and ebony fretboard. Congrats, and let's hear a recording soon.

Thanks for the link Paul...it's really good reading and the illustrations are great too...great story and a lot of history... The story about the fire is tragic...but who knows, the original may be out there somewhere yet...

BTW: Stuart, thanks! Enjoy the vacation (real one)...lol

Beautiful, Mike. Hopefully there will be a few guitars left for the rest of us to buy when you are finished with your aquisitions. ;)

Interesting history lesson. Thanks for the link, Paul. From another source, we learn that the first OM42 shipped to San Francisco in 1930 was purchased three years later in a pawn shop by an up and coming cowboy singer named Leonard Slye, who later changed his name to Roy Rogers.

Correction . . . the model was an OM45 (not a 42) and the sale price was reported to be $460,000.

I plan to get something recorded after the conference meetings this weekend...

Also on the Tak for the Tak CD...

Time is a precious commodity lately: my own that is...it's been in demand by everyone else... :p

Beautiful guitar.

Guess all that praying that folks did when y'all reported Violetta getting her hours cut really worked.

Blessings indeed! :)

Congratulations!

From the first moment I saw the torch inlay from old Martin literature, I was mesmerized. I even had my friend (who was a graphic artist by trade) make me a stencil, so I could put it on a Cat's Eye (licensed Martin copy in Japan). After many years, I finally found myself a Custom M-42 with the very same torch inlay. I am very happy, to say the least. Your guitar is simply ..... (insert any adjective here)!

Very nice Mike. I would love to compare the sound of it to the Flamed Myrtle OM42 I acquired a while back.

Love the pyramid bridge but I'm not sure about that pickguard.
Probably one of those things you need to see in person to really appreciate the beauty.

Yes. it did as a matter of fact but funny thing about answers to prayer is that it often comes in the form of unsuspecting ways...
Violetta was in a bad car accident several years ago as many of the "usual suspects" here may recall...she received a settlement from the insurance several months ago and opened a savings account...I sold my OM for nearly the amount of this guitar which left her helping a few hundred...which I have paid back with the sale of several Ovations...so, it does work...just not in ways we might think...
I highly recommend it and thanks to those who felt inclined to do just that...

Her hours did get cut: 2 days a pay period: 4 days a month...and it remains that way...FYI

Stephen, it needs to be seen in person...its not as gaudy as some of the light in the pic's made it...the PB Customs came w/o the p/g installed: this one was put on after it arrived at the dealer...BTW, this was special ordered and never picked up...I can't imagine...and Stuart bought it at a huge discount from it's retail cost of around 10 large...he had the Aura installed which also added to the cost. The originals came from Gryphon Music in CA...This was special ordered at Elderly w/identical spec's...
It is a special guitar...

I want to put a new set of strings on it...I am not sure what is on it now and Stuart is on vacation...these have the B and E plain strings that are gold in color. Anyone have any ideas what these are?
