I am curious about what model guitar this is...I am still a novice at Ovation spotting. It has a blue top, some nice carving on the bridge, and looks like it may be a slotted peg head. This shot came from a 1976 video if that helps. Beautiful guitar and also guitarist!

What most folks consider The Holy Grail. That is an original Adamas slothead. There were a total of 34 made, and there are a few of them around here. Ovation did a reissue of a limited number of this model a few years back.

Two of them recently changed hands here on the board. IF (and that's a big if) one ever comes up, don't expect it to fetch anything less than 12 large.

That's my son playing (with) #35 in the picture, I forget which number is to his left, and there's a Re-issue of #47 to his right:

Here\'s a list of the original slotheads and who they went to.

[Why did spandex ever go outta fashion? :p ]

When two-thirds of Americans became overweight, the market for spandex died, thankfully.

Or when the other half of Heart became overweight?

If you think that, you need to visit a Wal*Mart.

The OFC guitar, of which 12 were made, are a replica of the guitar Nancy is playing. Here is a picture of #6:

I think we have now established a base for the slotheads...in the last 30 days, #50 and #57 both went for $12,500.

 :)

In the 7 years since I joined the OFC I have seen 7 slotheads change hands. Probably a few more that I don't know of. The first one I recall went for $3800. back in 2002. Four that I know of have now gone over the 10k mark.

Would that be because of awareness? I know that when I joined the OFC I barely had any idea of what the slotheads were....

David: some of us around here own one or more of the original 34 - some are owned by others - or perhaps the original owners - and I'm guessing a few are unaccounted for ...Al...how many are unaccounted for? Sometimes collectors wish to remain anonymous. Search the forums present and past using "slothead" or "original slothead" and you will find lots of interesting discussions. These quite frankly are remarkable guitars - a reunion was held a few years ago bringing together a lot of these guitars...and their owners. Our favorite Uncle around here can share a lot about them. Can someone around here post the cover of that calendar and the owners page inside? These guitars are all unique - handmade - Cliff calls them like homemade cookies - all similar - yet subtle differences. Hang around a while - attend a few events - you'll get to play one.

If you are invited to Paul's house, Thursday evening of NAMM...will probably have two, maybe three of them. White gloves optional. :D

So true! I think I've played six of them (maybe seven) and they all have their own character. None is "better" than any of the others ... just different.

Mark! Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well ... it would be cool to see you again one day soon.

When I can play the intro to Crazy On You as well as Nancy, then I may feel worthy to play a few minutes on one...but I have a long way to go to get there. For right now, I am struggling to get my playing to a level that is worthy of this 6778LX. Never in my dreams did I ever dare imagine I could ever play such a wonderful instrument, let alone OWN one!!!! Hey Damon, how long ago did I buy this? I STILL cannot put her down! I think it has been about two weeks and I have already worn out the strings and must replace them tomorrow, lol.

Worthy - phht! You just need to suck up to someone who owns one and ask them nicely for a go. Like this:

"AJ, my place, 1 November. Bring your slothead and some of the other junk you've been collecting. Muzz, you can come too"

Works for me, and I'm still working on the intro to Crazy on You and it'll never be as good as Nancy.

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but how come Serge's son can find the most expensive guitar in the whole pile. I think it's genetic.

Thanks for reposting this photo, Cliff. Other than some vintage shots of the factory floor, it may be the most classic photo on this entire Board.

OMG...I just melted on the floor! I think I may have just found THE permanent 'desktop' for my computer! That has got to be the most amazing guitar pic I have ever seen!

Those are affectionately called snot blobs. They're integrated into the top, not physically on top like a traditional PG.

We have a bunch of nice guitars and good photographers, but that may be the epitome of both. Nicely done, Cliff.
