Well, The OFC award has been lying low and under the radar for a while. It's time to get back on track.

This year the OFC award flys down to the southwest U.S. and lands in the music room of
.
.
.
Mr. David Witko.
Dave knows Ovations inside and out. He's one of the brands biggest promoters while not being just a blind follower. Dave's postitive opinions of Ovation carrys all the more weight because he has never been shy about pointing out what could be done better.

I don't think anyone really knows how many production line and special order Ovations Dave has experienced but when he has something to say about a guitar, it comes from a hands on experience.

The OFC Award is not about the number of post counts, it's about continued participation. Even with all the other irons in the fire, Dave still finds time get involved with what goes on here.

Dave resume (or rap sheet) reads as follows:
1) Bears full resposibility for the Freddy and the Fishsticks thing.
2) Ditto Freddy and the Frenchfries.
3), 4), & 5).. Three... count 'em... three OFC Members Night Out CDs. These were Dave's babys from start to finsh. Gathering tunes, production work, sales, accounting and even shipping.
6) An in depth UKE seminar at the last OFC Tour. Problem... how do you give a UKE class when 12 of the 15 people don't have a uke? Daves solution was to buy enough of them to go around and try to sell them somewhere at a later time.
7) Without Dave there would not be any MR. BIG tee-shirts traveling all over the world.
8) His Ovation Gallery website.
9) And this is my favorite. Dave's idea for the last Amelia thing was to enlist a few other members to play a melody of Monkee songs to an 11 p.m. crowd at an IRISH pub. On top of that he thought it would be a good idea to pass out 75 kazoos to the crowd beforehand. Personally, I can't remember having a better time standing in front of a microphone.

We all wonder why the OFC is special. Why is it educational, entertaining, unpredictable and edgy?
Because we have members like good ol' Standing Ovation.
And Tupperware
And Gallerinski

Each of his multiple personalities deserves it. You shouldn't have to worry about it for a couple more years, Brad.

See? Eventually you get the recognition you deserve, Dave...

So, do you get a plaque or something to go with it?

Congratulations on the OFC award.

More photos tomorrow after I wax ... (poetic).

I'm absolutely SHOCKED. Geez, was starting to feel like the Susan Lucci of the OFC. No seriously, this came as a complete surprise. Standingovation, Tupperware and I collectively say a huge THANK YOU to whoever was involved. I'm honored to be included with those who held this before me, honored to be one of the "elders", so to speak and carry forth the OFC tradition and above all honored just to be part of this great community.

Some background for those newcomers, a number of years ago, maybe 5? the idea got hatched to award a "member of the year" thing to somebody on the bard who goes above and beyond in ways that don't necessarily get proper recognition. The award would get passed from year to year sort of the "Stanley Cup" of the OFC. Brad used to give out the award at the annual Ovation Factory Gathering, but of recent I guess he's had to resort to more seat-of-the-pants methods. Nobody seems really sure what the whole selection process involves. Brad manages it, but seems to solicit nominations in very mysterious ways and how the selection of finally done is anybodies guess. Eventually the smoke comes from the vatican chimney and poof, there's a new MOTY.

How I was chosen as this years recipient is beyond me, but I thank Brad with all my heart for the kind words he posted. I actually WAS asked a few months ago to make a nomination to the super secret selection committee but then the whole thing just sorta died and I'd forgotten about it. And NO I didn't nominate myself. Then today at my work shows up a ukulele sized box. I'm thrilled as hell because I've been chasing something special in the uke world and figured I was loaned a proto or something to check out. But to my extreme disappointment NO UKULELE. But wait, what the hell is this? It's the damn OFC MOTY AWARD WITH MY NAME ON IT. A note inside to call Brad.

As usual there are strings attached (no pun intended). I'm the 2009 winner which means I only get to be King for 2 more months. And this sucker weighs a ton which means it'll cost me about $30. to pass it on to the 2010 winner. But no sour grapes. This is a tremendous honor and I'm very humbled and very proud to have been chosen. Sometimes I might seem like an attention whore but honestly my only goal is to entertain myself, maybe entertain some other usual suspects and as a spinoff maybe bring some joy and help to others.

I'll shoot some appropriate photos of the trophy while it's here and again, my sincere and humble THANK YOU to each and every one of you. Many of you may have no idea what this award is all about, but trust me it means A LOT.

Dave

Dave- Lots of comments and good information you posted about the adamas guitars. I have used your gallery always as a referece for the ovation adamas and looks like I will be getting my first adamas pretty soon, in a week I guess.

Felicitaciones! Where is the fiesta now...

Congratulations Dave! to you and all of your other id's, personalities, and even the occasional anonymous pot-stirrer and their musings penned on your behalf.

The OFC would not be the same without you, your knowledge, support, wit, thrust, and parry.

you've earned it.

the thought of you as Susan Lucci... is kinda scary though.... Save it for your next trip to Amsterdam.

again congratulations.

Congratulations Dave !!

Your work on Ovation Gallery website has always been a model for me and I'm proud to be one of your friends.

Thanks for your kindness and all the great things you've done for the O's community, no one deserves this award more than you.
