Joined: November 2009 Posts: 55 Location: Southeast FL | Seems like a great group of people here. I stumbled on here late one night after picking up an Elite Standard (#6868) on CL. I may be asking a few questions so bear with me. I am learning to play again and this is my first Ovation. First thing I need to get is a case for my guitar and money is tight so I would like a used or cheap case. Any suggestions? Also, where is the serial# located on these? thanks, Tony

It should be visible through the sound-holes. Otherwise it is on the back of the headstock, but I thought you woulda found it there already.

Used cases come up on eBay every once in awhile, or you could do like OMA up there's done a few times and buy a cheap beater Ovation that comes with a case and give away the guitar to a charitable organization or needy guitarist. A padded gig bag might be another alternative. Stick around, if you like irreverence, good-natured ribbing, and the most knowledgeable collection of people (about Ovations, anyway) on the planet.

It still amazes me that the Florida contingent of Ovation lovers continues to grow and right here in Ct were the USA Ovations are made, there is what 4-5 of us??? Anyways, stick around and enjoy and try to make one of the gatherings in FLA!! You won't regret it!!

Well, let's see BT... Population of FL >18.3 million Population of CT ~3.5 million 4-5 is not a bad count for the size. ;) Now, if y'all could keep the retirees up there, you'd prolly have a larger contingent! :D

Now, that's not counting some out-of-state members that occasionally visit relatives down here in the Sunshine State. Now hold onto your wallet... this is a 'support group' of a different nature! Enjoy... Colin, It was your turn! ![]()

I do a lot of gigging and end up handling a lot of gear, in and out of the house, car, venues, in and out of doors, hallways, etc. The plastic cases not only damage relatively easily, particularly older stuff that has become brittle with age, but they also tend to damage walls and door jams that they come into contact with. My preference is the lighter weight semi-hard sided, nylon-covered Ovation case. They are less than half the cost of a plastic case new, and come in different sizes to match your guitar, although I'm told the deep bowl fits everything. I use the SSB case. Al can get them for you. He's one of the moderators of this board and an official Adamas/Ovation dealer. Again, welcome to the site.

I already suffered from G A S but now it may well be with O's and A's. Even thought about getting another O just to have one in a case but I dont want to get burned so I am learning a little every day on what to look for in a good used O. I love buying used stuff, trying it out, and selling it too. I usually do it with boats and outboards but they take up too much room and the ourboards are too heavy.lol. I may buy a couple more O's to try out before I fall in love with one or four.lol. My budget is low but I know sometimes I get lucky and find cool stuff. I am more of a pure acoustic player (I think) but I could not resist the look of that 6868. Even with its SSB, I guess I will have to look out a small practice amp. I am just learning to play anyway. Its probably best I keep a low profile but in a few months, you never know what can happen. Thanks again for all the kind words and advice. If you want to rattle my cage I can surely take it but I may dish out a little too. After I figure who plays nice and who doesnt. No pun intended. Tony
