One poor guy asks about the difference between a Elite-TX and an Elite-TX SS he saw on the internet? He gets no correct answers (SS = Super shallow) and nothing but don't buy Ovation crap. The usual: it sounds odd, you can't hold it, its plastic, blah, blah, blah. And when I say something, I am wrong. What ever happened to, if you can't say something nice, don't say it.? But no... thats too easy. And God forbid you say anything wrong about Martin, Tak, or any other known brand. Its frustrating and infuriating.

You can walk away from it, and they won't change their mind. Or you can hold your ground, and they still won't change their mind. But you might feel a little better about yourself because we all know that banging your head against a wall helps build character. On the AGF, enough of us weighed in over time to get the moderators to add a new rule that outlaws obvious flaming of any brands (Estebans aren't really a brand.). You can state your opinion about "brand X" but you need to be courteous/respectful. I also noticed many posts get removed at that point, so I think the mods put some effort into enforcement. I've noticed a HUGE change in tone since then over there. In the end, I know exactly how you feel. But the professional social worker in me forced me to keep my face in their business in order to educate those who would listen. (I'm kinda stubborn/stupid that way. )

If I see someone post about something they just bought and are sharing their excitement, I will either make a positive/congrats reply or, If I don't have anything good to say I keep quiet. It drives me crazy to see these people that find great joy in killing anothers happiness or excitement. Thats just my $0.02

Don't care for Gibsons or Takamines. But you'll never see me trashing any of them. I'll even trash what I don't like about my own O's. But when all is said and done, I'm here because of my O's. They have been and most likely will always be my favorite guitar in the world. As far as others are concerned, has anybody else experienced what I've experienced: Guitarists tend to trash Ovation, yet the people in the audience love them. I have NEVER, and this is no dramatic exaggeration, EVER seen any other guitar get so many compliments as an O. They're not just different looking, but different sounding, and in a good way, at least to the audience's ear. Whenever a guitarist looks at my O with that patronizing or condescending face I can't help but think to myself "Poor sap. Has no idea what he's missing." People hate O's for two particular reasons that I love them: the look and the sound. I am hooked on a round back and that O sound, and so are my audiences. To each his own, and to me my O!

He uses an Adamas and his backup is another Adamas. They are so reliable it took him a half hour to find his second Adamas, because he hadn't used it in so long. He was an Ovation key man and told me he always had people who would ask what kind of guitar he played. At first they would always say how great it sounded, then when they saw Ovation and the round back, they'd say they didn't like those. He said if he just told them it was an Adamas and didn't say "Ovation", they'd continue on about how great the guitar sounded and if they played it, they'd rave about how great it played. People pass judgments all the time based on brand names. It's the American way, and probably happens elsewhere, but I don't like to pass judgment on something I know nothing about.

I started this trek of mine with Ovations and have owned quite a few stellar examples. I have also owned quite a few stellar wood guitars. I know a lot of you make fun of me because of the fact I buy and sell guitars so fast, and I really don't mind the ribbing. But, through it all I have gotten to experience A LOT of different guitar designs and types, and have learned quite a bit from it. Some people seem to jump on one side and refuse to see the other side's good points. Seems to me you're limiting your learning experience with that attitude.

He had a Gibson J45 (I think) and it sounded magnificent!). Want to spend less money and still buy a great guitar? Get a Larrivee. Just not a Taylor fan......

I am lucky enough to be able to afford/own a few nice guitars from various builders. I love them all and if I don't love them, they aren't in my stable. I have grown away from the woodtop ovations because I decided I preferred the sound of an all wood guitar but I haven't found anything to replace my Adamaii and the unique/wonderful sound that comes out of them.

While I own and love some wood boxes, whenever I play them out somewhere I may get a compliment on my playing, but unless it's another musician they never mention the guitar. When I play ANY of my O's or A's, people never fail to come up and ask me about the beautiful, great sounding guitar. Musicians and non-musicians alike. Of course I've mentioned before, people in the Black Hills seem to love Ovations more than in other areas of the country. I'd like to think that I had something to do with that. Not because I play them, but because I make them available in my shop and once people try a USA-made Ovation, they just HAVE to have one.

I was watching a show about 'design' and they were speaking about how our purchases are an extension of ourselves. Note the baseball caps and T-shirts that say; "This is Chevy Country. On a quiet night you can hear a Ford Rust." But I haven't seen a T-shirt that sez; "Taylor Guitars Suck!" [Although, there's a niche product that I could be peddling on evilBay...] And Allison, I agree! Whenever I am outside playing people tell me their Ovation Stories... They had one, their cousin had one, they want one, whatever. Nobody has ever came up to me and said Ovation Guitars Suck.

Now that we don't use it for survival we have invented "culture" and "Forums" to show our alignment with the right group. If it comes down to a battle I'm siding with Jeff cuz he has a 1537 and a Trebuchet!
