Here it is folks! A perfect storm of a rare used instrument showing up at a Guitar Center near where I would be over Thanksgiving Weekend, a Black Friday discount coupon, a couple of perfectly-timed purchases by other OFCers, and the store not bothering to dicker with my trade in price! Sometimes the planets just line right up! Believe it or not, this is my first ever 6-string dreadnaught, and I've jumped clean off the deep end! It's also my first woodbox in over a decade. I'm telling you now, this guitar is something else!

I'm an Ovation guy through and through, and my O's aren't going anywhere (mostly), but this is an entirely different animal than anything I own. What a boomer! So without further ado...

Ladies and Gentleman, I give you the MARTIN D-42!!!!

I am not a big Martin fan but when you find a good one they are outstanding guitars! I love the 42 bling.

Very nice and I bet it sounds as good as it looks.

Congratulations!!!!

Nobody is a bigger Ovation slappy than I am but I'm not so closed minded to appreciate a good guitar when I see one.
Well done.
Nice bling.

.... but don't be lookin' to see it anywhere in our calendar any time soon.

I had a Martin 42 once, a Koa one.
Nice but it had a skinny neck, traded it on a OOO-42Brazillion Collings s/b.
This one looks real nice and you probably got a pretty good deal, congrats.

Patch, the slippery slope that you have been traveling has just taken an upward incline. Rough calculation, in the 3 years since I found the wonder of wooden guitars I have spent just about the same amount as I have on 30 years worth of Ovations. Good luck brother.

Beal and Dave,

Thanks for the input. From guys who know what you know, it's very much appreciated. Luckily (or not), my income prevents me from any lengthy pursuit of guitars of this caliber. Luckily, I really like the bang for the buck that comes out of the New Hartford factory. I really like this guitar. (Seriously, what's not to like eh?) But I sure do like my turtlebacks, each and every one of them.

Still....I've seen pictures of an 000-42 somewhere I think. Awwww crumbs, I'm doomed aren't I?

If you're going to spend time looking at 42s look at Collings.

No offense, but the face of that 000-42 looks a lot like the local princesses who've spent too much time in the tanning booth. My boys call them Oompa-Loompas.

There was a Collings CJ in a sunburst gown and 42 jewelry that was a real stunner. And it looked real good too.
