Hi Everyone,
I’m new to the group and thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Nick and I'm a long time fan of Ovation guitars. I play the guitar strictly for pleasure and I’m average at best, but as it’s been said, “playing a guitar is like petting a puppy; you don’t have to be any good at it to enjoy it.”

I was a big Cat Stevens fan back in the early 70’s, which lead me to purchasing a couple of Ovations. Every smart shopper knows that if you buy the same guitar that your favorite musician plays, you’ll sound just like them. ;) Priorities changed and I eventually (and regrettably) sold both of those guitars. About a year ago I picked up what I believe to be a Balladeer, circa early 70’s. There are some issues with the neck joint, but the sound is as good as any good as any Ovation I’ve ever heard. Sometime I’d like to post some pictures and enlist this group in helping me in identifying the instrument.

That brings me to today. As I mentioned, my Ovation has some issues and that seemed like a sufficient reason to buy a new guitar. I have never held, touched, or even seen an Adamas guitar outside of pictures, but Kaki King’s music convinced me that my next guitar needed to be one. I had come up with a list of features that I would like my new Adamas to have and after a conversation with Al, the 08C seemed to be the best fit. So, this morning I called Al back and ordered a 2008-5. The next 4 - 5 business days will seem like an eternity. :)

Thank you all very much for sharing your knowledge and experience about Ovation guitars through these web pages. I look forward to being part of your group.

All the best,
Nick

Welcome Nick! I like your attitude and choice of guitars. I had the pleasure of playing one at a local store and it was truely an awesome guitar. You will be very pleased. It has the best features of my Legend and UTE. Let us know when you get it and of course we like photos!

Welcome. I am a newbie to both the guitar and the forum. This place is a great source of information and entertainment. Also a great collection of individuals. Enjoy and check out the for sale section. Lots to see and learn there too.

Enjoy the ride,
Tony

Yea, unfortunately (or fortunately) he picked up a 48 inch yardsick to measure any future purchases by.

Personally, I went through many Celebrity's first.

But I wanna Thank Nick for sharing the phrase...

“Playing a guitar is like petting a puppy; you don’t have to be any good at it to enjoy it.”

I need to get that put on a T-shirt

Old Man Arthur,
I know, but I blame Al for it. I asked if he’d sell it to me and he said, “yes.” I agree the "puppy" phrase would make a great t-shirt.
Thanks for the welcome.

Iffy,
That’s part of my problem identifying the guitar, there’s not a single number or label anywhere on, or in, the instrument. Not even on the end of the neck block. The neck joint has been repaired and there’s a small steel plate over where I believe the S/N would be. I’ll try to get some pictures up.
Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Nick. Just in case you are the Saint one, I've been a real good boy this year and would love a new guitar under my tree. Al has my address, but I'm sure I'm in your book so you know where to find me ...

If you're not, enjoy the guitar yourself. And Bah Humbug. ;)

Welcome to the Ovation asylum where the inmate rule and Ovations make them drool.

And when you show off your 08C, there will be puddles a plenty. Congrats in advance.

Welcome Nick. Great start. Problem is, it is very difficult to stop from here on out. No matter how many nice guitars you have, there are always more out there. Oh, and then there's all those amps, too.
