Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | How many of us who collect guitars actually play them? I mean often? OK, OK, Here's what I mean...
Last fall I bought a beautiful Elite 1718-6p and took pictures, posted them w/ the two other -6p's I owned...
But at the same time, I got in three other guitars including the 1978 #119 Adamas I, and the OFC II #4...OK, so I played it; it sounded fine, it needed new strings and a good cleaning which I obliged...and then it went into its case and the other guitars and life situations took over...
Well, since I have had a lot of time on my hands these last two weeks I have played and enjoyed every guitar in my collection...yesterday, the 1718 got its turn...and wow, what a guitar...It needed an action adjustment and so I took out two of the three shims (factory...the bridge saddle had never been touched before me), tuned it up and spent a great afternoon playing what is one of the finest Elite's I have ever played...Seriously: great balanced tone, excellent sustain, and I love the V neck...
And I thought, WOW...all these months and I didn't even realize it's potential...I cannot believe I had not spent time with this guitar before but I will certainly be doing that from now on...I tell you, these -6p twins, the 1718 and the 1758 are incredibly great guitars...I know all about the 1758 having played one for so many years but I just can't believe how long it took for me to find out how good the 1718 really is...and it's in near mint condition as well...Something about that deep bowl that really gives this guitar a nice punch...
And to think how close I came to selling them...I'm so glad that I listened when SWMBO told me to keep them...I think I speak for most of us married guys when I say that as much as it pains us to admit it, some times they really do know what's best...IMAO at least!!!

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Some of my guitars really don't get played as often as they deserve.
I recently dug my 2003 1778T (with the OP-30) out of the pile.
I have had this guitar for awhile, this is the one that I had to remove/repair/reset the neck on.
I haven't played it for a long time, and the last string change was May '09 according to empty string package in the junk compartment.
I said all that to say that I pulled it out and right now it is at my right hand, and it reminds me of why I originally started liking T's. This guitar is the reason. I need to get a faster 'rotation' going on these guitars. |

I guess that's cos I'm waiting to sell the one I don't play. Later, when the market comes back a little. |

Location: Seymour, Tennessee | I am not a collector, I'm poor but if I include my Son's 77CB, I have 4 O's.
We moved to TN in June of 2006.
I had to leave the 12 CL & 68 DB at my Mom's house cause we didn't have enough room for everything and I didn't think it would be so long before I was able to go back down to FL to pick them up.
So, I haven't played either in 4 years!
Playing Brandon's 77 during my 2 weeks at home really brought on the Jonesing for my old deepie Shiney Bowl.
I can't wait to go back and pick them up when I get home (Last day of flying was today!, We're almost done!).
Of course then I'm going to be waiting with baited breath for the 68 to come back from the MS once I get it sent off.
I might have to play it for a few months before I send it though :) |

Not a collector, certainly not a player. I guess I would just call myself a hobbyist. I have some guitars put away that never get played and probably never will. Others rotate in and out and get a dose of amateur strumming and picking regularly.
The only one that 100% always gets played on a daily basis is the Lost Art Koa. Not sure why, it just does.
There's way more expensive hobbies. Anybody own a boat? Skier? Golfer? Scuba? Private pilot? Poker tournaments? I make sure I keep that list right on the tip of my tongue so it's always handy. I've got a coworker who drops about 5G a year on radio controlled helicopters which serve no purpose in this world what so ever. But he enjoys it. |

But yeah, I do play guitar. Just not very well.
And I am happy to hear the sound that it makes, even with my lack of talent.

| I don't understand the guitar collection thing. I'm more interested in getting the music right and of course having a good guitar to do that with - one really good guitar would be enough for me. Right now I have two acoustics and I switch between them for different songs. I'm considering adding an HD-28 but there's no rush on that and I might just forget about it altogether.
As for hobbies though, I've been involved in motor racing all my life. Racing is the process of turning money into noise and over the years I've made enough noise to pay for a very substantial guitar collection..lol |

I have a friend who thinks my 50K+ HT/Stereo is an incredible waste of money and he is happy with his Bose.
However he doesn't blink an eye at the 5K a month he pays for car insurance for a couple of cars that see the road maybe a dozen times a year between them.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Some guitars are not supposed to be played, they look better on the wall, the Italian 335 copy with BAD 60's flower curtain fabric under the finish.
Some guitars are special or limited use, long necks, 12 strings, mandochello
Some just make me smile, a 57 strat in the bathroom with a 53 Paul next to it
Others get played all the time, the Collings SJ koa, a D-42 varnish, CJ varnish
Some only get played at O'Kanes and similar places, the Tak 760 and 1984C-Series
Some are investments and get played on special occasions, the 1939 D18
Some others are on a random rotation and others just take up space in the storage unit.
Some are out on loan to friends and some of those will come back someday
bottom line is you can never have enough and there was always a good reason for why you bought it and untill you run out of space to store them, what does it matter?
It's always fun to buy a new one
Sometimes it's fun to haul one out you haven't played in years and discover it all over again and find out that it's the best you've ever seen (since the last time you looked at it) |

Location: Round Rock, TX | We had some people over this afternoon and someone called for a tune from me and my bandmate who was in attendance. I was busy taking care of some hostly duty and asked a friend to duck into the studio and grab a guitar for me. He asked which one I wanted and I said, "Any of the acoustics." He came back with my 2007-BCS. I've been concentrating on the Larrivee's for acoustic guitar playing for some time now and have been neglecting my O's. When I have picked up an O it's been the 2006-FKOA. Well, just like Mike, I found a neglected treasure. I played several tunes on it for our guests and, after everybody left, sat and played on it for a good long while, just digging on the tone and playability. I had considered selling it, among others, to fund an acquisition, but now I believe I'll look elsewhere. |

Location: Flahdaw | I seem to have a choice between sticking a bunch of money in our retirement funds, or buying a bunch of guitars. Unfortunately I can't do both. I figure the future's gonna be tough enough without having sufficient money squirreled away.
That said, I own enough decent gits for my needs. |
