I didn't care for them personally, but I hate to see them go. They seemed to make a good product by the account of many whose opinion I trust (about guitars anyway). Here\'s the AGF thread

I would have liked to at least got to play one for awhile... No big deal... But I woulda liked to have had one for a month or two (then resell it).

I've owned about 7 or 8 CA's of different types and to be honest, every one I've had since the first 3 or so have been of lesser quality and playability. I've had to send back 3 (including the latest Cargo) for issues such as relief, (you can't adjust because of no truss rod), intonation, (on two) and general unplayability. Like I said, I shoulda kept the first Cargo.

Being in a business where purchasing a cnc milling center could be useful we had to weight it against the costs and we just could not justify the expenditure. (we charge a lot more for our fixtures than CA charges for a guitar, and I would guess we sell a lot more items) My guess is that they went in pretty heavily leveraged, but I am only speculating.

If the last 4 or 5 that TJ bought all had problems, I'm sure other people have had problems with theirs. No wonder they are closing. Blame it on poor quality control.

Wow, I hope you don't make other decisions in your life based on that kind of evidence. It sounds to me, and I admit I know nothing about the company, that their quality went down hill. If the last 4 or 5 that TJ bought all had problems, I'm sure other people have had problems with theirs. No wonder they are closing. Blame it on poor quality control. If quality control was the sole factor to kill a company Ovation would have been dead decades ago. There are a ton of possible causes and it was probably a combination of several, cost of and competeing demand for the raw material and the general ecomomic climate being a few of the more likely factors. Of the several dozen CA's I've seen the quality was fine and they sounded great. But then I'm not going to draw the conclusion that their QC was perfect based on that tiny sampling, they probably did have some QC problems, all guitar factories do to to some degree. Pesonally I'm dissapointed about this. I was talking to them at NAMM about being a UK dealer and was ready to place an order. One's thing is for sure, I won't be going to Rainsong as an alternative. Maybe they'll be back. Emerald Carbon Fibre Guitars shut down and are back in business again, even though they suck worse than Rainsong.
