Well it was a little bittersweet last Friday when this arrived. It came to my office as I was having a bunch of computer-relocation work being done. I was in a hurry to take it to another room to tune her up using an in-line tuner, so I quickly snatched it out of the case, hurried to the next room, and while rounding the corner I hit the headstock on the corner of a metal filing cabinet. Well ... after sobbing for a while, I gazed at the nick in the finish, which had crazed through, and decided to see what I could do with it. I took it home and carefully used a scalpel tip to dig the cracked/loosened finish out and made a clean hole. Using Birchwood Casey Gunstock Tung Oil and a Q-tip, I dabbed a small amount of the finish into the hole and let it dry. Once dry I buffed it with super-fine steel wool and cleaned it off. I repeated the process daily over the weekend, and finished it with gun stock rubbing compound. Now it is barely visible.(yay)Well here she is. I promised Webster I would send him pics right away (since his 1537 is also in for the same work - Top Refinish), but it didn't make sense to post it twice. Anyway ... Here it is. It also has updated electronics, new bowl paint, and I just put a set of Templeton's amber tuner buttons on it ...

Looks really nice Vince, it seems that the factory did a great job! I can't wait for mine to arrive. Let us know how it sounds.

What a beautiful guitar. Another fine example of what they do at the Mothership. Congrats, Vince.

That was the same thought that came to my mind. The amber really brings out the honey shades in the guitar and fretboard. Nice photography, too. How 'bout a close-up of your nick repair?

I agree with G8r...those amber buttons look very nice...goes well with all the other natural toned/wood trim.

"Beautiful. What was done at the factory?"

... Refinished top(removal/replace of epaulets), Repaired dings/gouges along edges and a couple little ones on top, Repainted Bowl, Replaced Electronics with updated unit, Checked/leveled/dressed frets, Set-up.

"How 'bout a close-up of your nick repair?"

... You mean you can't see it in the photo?

What's not to love eh? I plan on having my 1538 get the spa treatment later this year along with the Nakao, but it sure is hard to wait.

Oh Yeah ... I forgot to mention how it sounds and plays. I actually believe it sounds BETTER than when I sent it. Perhaps that is due to the additional top sanding and a thinner finish than the old Varnish. It seems to be much louder than before. The setup and fretboard work make it play verrrry easily with a medium-low action.

A big thanks to the guys at the factory!

Well off to play her again! ...

The Amber buttons look great with cedar- tops or guitars where the spruce has darkend, also works well with koa. I have a few sets of Amber in full-size and mini left. Also have tortoiseshell, grained ivoroid, koa, walnut and real mother of pearl. Ebony and Rosewood in mini and fullsize will be back in stock soon.

Correction to above. I meant also works well with walnut, not Koa
