Joined: August 2002 Posts: 8307 Location: Tennessee | I had the pleasure of having recently-joined OFC member AstroDan (and his lovely wife Debbie) visit CasaBobbo on Saturday. Dan has a beautiful new Custom Elite (complete with a "Custom Legend" label on the inside) and he came over to try out my GB Shen 60 for plugging in. We had some fun playing a few tunes and goofing around. But even more fun ... was that Dan came over in his 2007 Shelby Cobra GT/SC ... a 500+ HP supercharged monster with a Hurst short throw shifter and all the little goodies Carroll Shelby's shop puts on that make a supercar super. He even let me drive it ... and it is truly a remarkable machine. I'd love to get that car into a place where we're not limited to sub 100mph velocity. Oh yeah, Mr. Big made an appearance too ... ![]()

The baseline Mustang with a six cylinder cranks out over 300 hp and was timed 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Kinda like good guitars and amps . . . I wish I had the skill to use it.

Beautiful piece of top wood with a very nice grain pattern. The red teardrop finish is stunning in person, and perfectly complemented by the abalone purfling. Plays really, really nice and sounds the way it should. The guitars coming out of New Hartford these days are top notch. watcha think of AD's CE? And how did he like the Shen 60? I'll let Dan answer the question about the GenzBenz, but I think he's on the hunt for one as we speak.

Is this a good amp/buy? If not, the GB is not that much more... I am a pure hacker when it comes to guitar playing, but I was suitably impressed with Bob. I loved the feel and sound of some of your older Ov's, Especially the Collectors! WOW! Also really liked the feel of the 12-string that I played, Can't remember what it was though. (There's a lot of sensory-overload in that room!) :) If you go to sell one of the ones I played, please PM me and give me a chance! As for the car, Bob took it very easy and he fails to mention that he also owns a nice ride! ![]() ![]() Thanks again Bob, for opening your home to a stranger and allowing me access to your wonderful musical collection! Also, thanks for the CD. we listened on the 45 minute drive home and loved it! You folks here are WAY out of my league! Dan

It is good, but takes a bit of tweaking to get it to sound alive. The basic tone is pretty good. Upsides to the AC-60: It is very light and easy to carry in the shoulder bag. A BIG plus for carrying around to gigs. It has a fold-out tilt gizmo on the bottom so you can tilt it up for better tone on stage. It has pretty good effects. It has stereo or mono line-out so you can use it as a stage monitor and plug it into a house PA as your DI box. It has two channels with a master volume. Each channel has a dual input jack that accepts 1/4" guitar cables or an XLR mic cable. I can't remember if it has phantom power or not. Anyhow, it makes a killer portable personal PA system. You can plug in your guitar and a mic, and get it eq'd and balanced on volume for both channels. It has a feedback filter that automatically notches out feedback (or you can turn off that feature). AUX in so you can plug in an MP3 player to jam along. The GB looks kinda pricey, I will see if my local store can match this Roland AC-60 . Is this a good amp/buy? If not, the GB is not that much more... [/QB] I don't know what the street price is these days, but the link you gave is a price where you will get a lot of capability for the money. Downsides to the AC-60: It isn't as loud as some other 60 watt amps. The speakers are small so it doesn't have quite the depth of some other amps. Plenty loud enough for a restaurant gig or small auditorium. Not loud enough for a bar band situation (but you'd probably be plugged into the house PA for something like that these days). You have to get above 30 watts to get an amp that has a decent speaker, at least from what we were able to test in shops around here. If you buy something less than 60 watts, crank it up to see if the speaker gets distorted early. We found a lot of the 30W and 15W units were limited by the speaker to low volumes. The electronics might be ok, but the speakers can't handle much power. Thus they are limited to very small rooms. We bought the Crate 60W amp. I think it has a fuller sound than the Roland AC-60. But it is bigger/heavier to lug around. The effects and other features are quite comparable between the two. Either one is a very good amp.
