I've come to realize that the Adamas burst, on the top of the Adamii, has changed over the years. If you look at pics of real early ones, the burst was much more subtle. In later years, it goes from dark gray or black in the center to whatever color they are. More stark.

The second guitar in this Adamas catalog is what I think the blue burst should look like http://ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/Adamas%20Booklet/Adamas%20Book...

Thoughts?

It's like everything else today... Look at the beige 1188 Willa was selling on EBAY last week!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260584962799&ssP...

Think you'll ever see a finish like that again... probably not?

I look at that picture and it almost has an 'aurora' around it... like Excaliber, lol

What do you think of the burst on your OFC guitar?

All the Adamas bursts I've owned look quite different in different lights. Taking pictures of the same guitar outside and inside with and without flash, they look like totally different guitars. I agree, the bursts do differ slightly from guitar to guitar. I guess it depends on who's painting it and how much color they use at the time. Three pics, same guitar...

Doesn't really have a burst. More like "antiquing" around the outside of the top....

The OFC guitars were intentionally shaded to match #54 as closely as possible.

That was my suggestion (sort of, and I'm probably not the only one who made it).

In the fall of 06, after the prototype (#1) of the OFC guitar had been built, it had the strong burst but with the slotheads' gold sprinkles on it. Great guitar, but it didn't look right in the pictures I saw (I was told and believe that it looked much better in person).

I didn't suggest specifically #54 (Clifford's guitar), but did say that the blue of the original slotheads should be used and then retired.

Don't know if it was ever retired, but that's why the OFC slotheads have the old time blue top. And as I said, I doubt if I was the only person to suggest this......

Very true.

Just wondering... How many different painters they've had over the years, and how much individual interpretation they're allowed (if any).

Here's a shot of OFC No. 5 alongside original slothead No. 43. Same basic lighting, same camera, same photograph. Although the tilt of the guitars are different in the photo, the original has obviously yellowed over the past 30 years. You can see this not only in the burst, but also in the wood tones. The new models will look different with 30 years of patina, too.

Here's a photo of OFC guitar #3 (on the left), and original slothead #45 (Aussie James). Very very similar in color. Prof BB is right. 30 years does change a guitar (not good, not bad, just change).

What surprises me is that on some of them the snot blob turns green or yellow, and on some it doesn't. That '79 that Gallerinski was kind enough to pick up for me still has a clear snot blob. (Allergy vs. cold?)

Makes sense. Since I am fair skinned and get sun poisoning, there's no chance of any of my guitars getting sun exposure either.
