Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I've been receiving messages from a colleague who is visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland today. He say's it needs to be on everybody's bucket list, if for no other reason than just to see the gear displays. Who's been there and is it a must see? Cleveland is not a place that I regularly visit, so it would have to be a diversion from some other destination. |

There is a gun museum in Oklahoma off the main highway that I passed at least 100 times before I finally stopped cause I was bored.
Ended up being there for over 6 hours before I ran out of time. It was totally fascinating and riveting. |

I found about 30% of it interesting. And this is when they had a special WHO exhibit going on.
They had some of Jagger's stage outfits. That is one little guy.
I'm glad I went once. Overall I was underwhelmed. I'm certainly in no hurry to go back.
Temp's sage like saying.. "like dancing about architecture" comes to mind. Looking at a display of albums on the wall is a very different experience from putting them on a turntable. |

Location: Ohio | I live in Cleveland, have never been theree, and have no deisre to go. One of the biggest problems is like everything else in Cleveland, no parking. If you want to park close, 20.00+ and you still, have to walk about 1/2 mile. The crowds are ungodly, and expensive to get in.....

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Not on Bucket List status, but would certainly visit if in Cleveland. The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville was well worth the visit. It had little to do with "Country Music" as such, and more to do with "History of Music in USA" and the archives are just amazing. |

| If I were in Cleveland, yes. But I don't think I would make a special trip to Cleveland to see it.
One museum I did go to that I would go to again is The Woodstock Museum in Bethel, NY.

while in seattle Miles took me to the experience music project. that was kinda cool but I like that sorta stuff.
I remember liking the first hard rock cafe I went to in nashville then I realized that they just get artists to sign guitars and it is mostly not really their stuff
the woodstock museum would be cool too. |

Location: SE Michigan | I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and it was OK, but I certainly wouldnt make a special trip for it. To be honest after awhile some of the displays started to seem a little creepy, so many of the artists are now dead. It reminded me a little of walking around a flea market or an estate sale.
I remember being impressed looking at some of the hand written songs notes by people like John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix (dead and dead).
Like Brad mentioned, I was amazed at how small the costumes seemed! Most of those people must have weighed like 100 pounds!.
Some of the equipment and guitars were cool to look at but as I recall a lot of it was pretty beat up. But hey it's history, if you love history and rock and roll you will enjoy it. |

Location: St Louis | It's like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. I have been twice, once by myself during a business trip and once with a friend. Enjoyed it both times.
Yes it is expensive to get in and yes the gift shop is overpriced and yes parking sucks but...ever been to a professional sporting event??!!
There is something that everyone can enjoy if you have even a small amount of interest in history or music or musical history. Not everything is for everybody. And they rotate the displays and always have some sort of special program going on.
Last time I was there they had an entire floor dedicated to Springsteen. I'm not a big Springsteen fan but found it interesting anyway.
One room has "antique" recording and playback equipment on display. Much to my surprise and chagrin two pieces they had on display I currently have (and still use) in my music room, a Pioneer reel-to-reel and a Technics tuner/receiver combo. Made me laugh and feel a bit old at the same time.
Anyway...I would recomend a visit. |
