I've read that if you wait too long to start playing a guitar it will never "open up" to it's true potential because of irreversible changes in the cellular structure of the wood. If you want a pristine example to put in a glass case, this is it. If you want one of these that has the tone and volume these are famous for, I don't know...

True but if it came in a brown case, where is it and why is it in a black case...it may not have been kept in the case the whole time...who cares, probably has no to little fret wear...would still ask some detailed questions of the seller...an absolute such as "never played" raises some disclosure questions. Never been evan strummed, no string changes, kept in a dank, dark basement?

Might want to go to Jerome's site and look in one of the old late 80's catalogues to see what was "stock". I guess at some point in the '80's the cases went from brown to black. Maybe one dealer or another had more of one than the other. I think I heard somewhere they shipped them in boxes. Don't really know. Never bought a new guitar.

I just noticed I have the hang tags, receipt and the booklet, but not the Certificate of Authenticity. Maybe the original owner never sent in for it. I can't imagine he'd keep all the other stuff in the case but not the COA.

I just got done playing mine in the start up session of our Friday nite jam. Along with my guitar, there was a Collings dreadnaught, a D-28, and a Takamine D size cutaway. To be honest, I preferred the sound of my 87 C. Those are great guitars.....

We can fawn and fuss over the slightest little ding making a guitar so much less than mint and then can find fault in this '87 because it has been left untouched and unplayed for 19 years. Yes indeed my friends. We, myself included and in the nicest sense of the word, are geeks.
