I'd love to lay that lady on my red blanket. Absolutely stunning! Once you've had black that beautiful, there's no going back.

Besides, the black ones always sound the best.

Congrats Mike!

The only sucky thing on the -1 and -5 is that you can't see the cool Adamas II type laminates on the pegboard and heelcap.

Damon, it is highly worthy of your expertise in photography...too bad we're so far away...true that the peg-head and heel laminates are hidden on the -1 and -5 but just check out the figure in the Epi's and the Fingerboard...and there is a lot to be said for Black and Gold!!! Very elegant!!

These pic's were somewhat hastily done...I was gone until late in the day: and this wasn't due until tomorrow or Sat...Surprise!!!
I wanted to get it posted so all could enjoy...thanks for the good wishes...
Leslie held this for me for almost 6 months...she knew what I was going thru and waited until I was well enough to really enjoy it! Very appreciated!!

I haven't seen a -5
The only other one I have seen was in a picture with Steve Sutton playing one in his old band...

I spent some quality and quantity time with this older gal this evening...I may not have a voice right now, but wow: she surely does. We went on and on for some three hours...what an amazing guitar. (and yes, the wife knows and is not worried...lol)
This one is coming to the next get together!

Pretty guitar. I thought you already had a 1537-5? Does this one sound different?

This is a looker, Mike. The gloss black body sure shows off the maple binding, walnut bridge, and that wonderful walnut fretboard. A real stuner. Now the rest of us have made a mental note of this just in case you tire of it or need to fund something else.

Nope, I've owned several black guitars including an 87C-5 and a 1537-4 several years ago, but this is my only 1537-5...it's a keeper: to my ear, it sounds better than any Ovation I have owned including both of the aforementioned guitars. The several that have heard it all seem to agree... Incredible sustain, bass, and clarity make this guitar stand out from the rest by a considerable distance.

I saw something interesting in your pictures ... bridge bolts? When did they start putting these on the 1537's? Mine from early in the run doesn't have them. And is your binding maple? Again, my early one is walnut? Lastly, does this one have the lamination around the sound holes? Just curious to know if they changed construction partway through the run ...
