Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I had been neglecting my OFC II for the past several weeks while playing newer members of the group...last night I took it out and played for a while and noticed that the strings were a bit tone dead: TBH I am not sure when I last changed them or with what...so this morning I installed a new set of D'Addario's (EJ16's - my favorites for all things Ovation)...OH YEAH! All of the tone and power of the guitar came rushing back and left me with a big smile...It now sits as the only guitar in the ready-to be-played-instantly guitar stand in my family room...the kids love it and it will be getting it's daily workouts again. Now that I can sing again (sparingly), I'll be using this on Sundays as well.
I just have to reiterate how great a guitar the OFC II is...it is the reason I have sold many of the other Ovations I had...almost nothing can even begin to compare...it is the perfect gigging guitar IMHO...and it looks fabulous!

I have been using cleartones on mine but for whatever reason they seem to lose their ring with this guitar fairly quickly.
I think I am gonna go back to the ej16's and give them another try.
TBH, this was my go to guitar for about 4 months but now #57 is back on the stand along with the Borges and Bourgeois....(yeah yeah...no Collings on the ready stands at the moment but the CJ and OM are only 10 feet away in the case and always at the ready!) |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | No. 5 is currently in a rack on a bookcase within about six feet of my office desk. Even if it isn't touched everyday, it is stared at constantly, by me and my visitors/colleagues. The cross weave pattern of the carbon fiber top beneath the understated burst takes on different looks depending upon the angle and light reflection. The artists who designed and created this model are geniuses. |

Some have called it a "custom 2080," but that's only because it looks roughly like a 2080. It has the characteristic 2080 "cat's eye" sound hole, but has a glossy carbon-fiber top. The 2080 has a textured carbon-fiber top. It DOES sound a lot like a 2080.
The OFC II is REALLY light. It's so light that I had to question what the neck was made of. I thought it might be a neck made of some composite material as well, but it's maple.
It has a full-size contour bowl, and comes stock with an OP pre-amp, not VIP, like the stock 2080 (fully switchable for the iDea if you so desire).
The sound is booming and full and round and consistent and bright and full and delightful. The neck is glossy and wonderfully playable. It's a 1 and 11/16ths inch neck. It stays in tune FOREVER.
The run was for eight guitars, and six of the guitars match the above characteristics. However, two of the run managed to become wideneck slot-heads. It's one of THOSE that I hunger for.

Kit, this is the one of the reasons I posted the pic's: we have new members who do not know about these guitars and others that Al has had built...some are sold out but he still has others...you simply cannot go to a retail store and see these on the racks...I recommend that if you or anyone else is interested in these exceptional instruments you should contact Al at Lost Art Vintage (see the links tab above)...
Also Dave's (Gallerinski) guitars are immaculate so if you want an OFC II you couldn't go wrong there...

I hope sometime in the future, when Karen graduates from nursing school in May, and the money situation gets better, I will be able to buy one of these. I scraped every penny I had but couldn't swing the OFC II, so I had to "settle" for a stock 2080… ;) It is an absolutely phenomenal guitar. Not quite the OFC II in appearance, but similar-looking and sounding. I don't see them listed on the Ovation website, so they may have been discontinued? Al had 2080's a while back at a bargain price. If you are interested in that style, call Al sooner rather than later and see if he still has any of the 2080's…
There were mixed opinions about the appearance of the 2080's (they actually look much nicer in person than in the photos on the web) but I think most of the folks here who have had a chance to try one would agree that they play and sound amazing…

[/QB] +1. The appearance is much cleaner and classier in person than in photos. The top is super touch sensitive, and for those who have good right hand technique it really loves you. Most of the time I just strum or hack away, totally missing out on the huge range of responsiveness. If I could play fingerstyle it would be an even more amazing guitar than I already think it is. The VIP preamp is perfect for this guitar.
I have been offered trades for it that literally would have me $thousand$ ahead on my investment. When it was time to pick my one-and-only acoustic the 2080 got the nod over the 2007 Collector's.
Anyone considering a 2080 should just call Al and do it.
