Anybody here realize how big this statement is? That it comes from a guy who's sold off most of his wood topped Ovations, but kept the few that really impress him, gone on to Tak's, Martins, and Collings, and that this is one of the the ones he kept?

And he also had the good taste to say my 710 Taylor was a great guitar.

Tupp,
Which do you like the sound better, the K-1111 RI or the 1627 RI?
Thanks

When are you people going to join the 21st century and use millimetres? Or at least use the decimal system. You can tell at glance that 1.6875 inches is less than 1.875 inches. Or maybe you enjoy the mental arithmetic of all those fractions? Even SAYING "One and eleven sixteenths" is a pain. Get it wrong and you risk crashing a space shuttle.

Please keep on using the inch system. Since joining the OFC I've learned to handle it and I'm really proud to know what 1-11/16 means (even though I prefer the 47.625 mm neck).

....from speaking with luthiers in this country where metric is the standard of measure, the old feet and inches system is still seems to be the "industry standard"

The old "industry standard" is good enough for me, this is still the USA.

An inch is between the first and second knuckle of my pinkie...
A cubit is from my middle finger to my elbow...
A fathom is my arm-spread...

Simple!

Why would I wanna change that?

The only time the metric system ever experienced widespread adoption here in the US was related to the purchase of cocaine.

Please allow me my brief metric rant.
For 36 years I have worked with hydraulic hose connections on heavy equipment. I admit that metrics is more logical would glady embrace the system if the those guys across the pond would get their act together and standardize!!! Seem like every little princedom over there has to have their own little version of thread size and pitch. Oh yeah, its all measured in millimeters but where the simularity ends. France, Great Britian, Italy, Sweden, Germany, and Japan compulsivly cling to their own standards while expecting us to adapt to their version of a world economy.
When those guys get it together, come see us and we'll talk.

DING DING DING DING DING. THAT'S THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION. AN THAT'S THE REASON THAT MY 1627 RI IS ACOUSTIC ONLY, SHINY BOWL, 5 POINT BRIDGE ... THE BEST OF BOTH PERFECT WORLDS !!!

OK - Put a gun to my head and I'd have to pick the 1627 RI.

All the cream Ovation woodtops bring something to the table. That one has the best top, this one has the best neck. That one over there is best looking, this on has best electronics. That one has best bracing pattern, the other has best finish, etc. etc. etc.

The 1627 RI probably isn't "best" in any one area. But it's the 9.9 best of EVERY area all combined in ONE guitar. It's what Ovations used to be when so many of us fell in love with them in the first place.

No bones about it, the FD14 is my favorite Ovation because it's the only one that sounds like a Martin. But when the house is on fire and I've got to save one wood top guitar that captures everything that IS ovation, the 1627 RI is the one that gets out of the house first.

We have a proprietary "system" of extruded aluminum components (3,4,5,6,8-sided uprights/columns and a veritable plethora of crossmembers that bolt together to create custom booths(including double-deckers), islands, pavilions, or entire show floors.
All of which is designed/assembled in AutoCAD.

Herein lies "the Rub" :

All of the X&Y-Axis specs (Length/Width) are done in Meters(and variations thereof) whilst all of the Z-Axis specs (Height) is done in Feet/Inches . . .

Now you know why I drink.

Well, I usually spell it the non-American way

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The millimetre (American spelling: millimeter, symbol mm) is a unit of length in the metric system, equal to one thousandth of a metre, which is the current SI base unit of length."

Just as I do with words like metre, centre, amoeba etc.

There was huge emphasis on metric system here when I was in primary school, thus I never learned all the fractions of inches. I still tend to use miles though!
