Location: Germany | Please keep on using the inch system. Since joining the OFC I've learned to handle it and I'm really proud to know what 1-11/16 means (even though I prefer the 47.625 mm neck).

For 36 years I have worked with hydraulic hose connections on heavy equipment. I admit that metrics is more logical would glady embrace the system if the those guys across the pond would get their act together and standardize!!! Seem like every little princedom over there has to have their own little version of thread size and pitch. Oh yeah, its all measured in millimeters but where the simularity ends. France, Great Britian, Italy, Sweden, Germany, and Japan compulsivly cling to their own standards while expecting us to adapt to their version of a world economy.

OK - Put a gun to my head and I'd have to pick the 1627 RI.
All the cream Ovation woodtops bring something to the table. That one has the best top, this one has the best neck. That one over there is best looking, this on has best electronics. That one has best bracing pattern, the other has best finish, etc. etc. etc.
The 1627 RI probably isn't "best" in any one area. But it's the 9.9 best of EVERY area all combined in ONE guitar. It's what Ovations used to be when so many of us fell in love with them in the first place.
No bones about it, the FD14 is my favorite Ovation because it's the only one that sounds like a Martin. But when the house is on fire and I've got to save one wood top guitar that captures everything that IS ovation, the 1627 RI is the one that gets out of the house first.

Location: NJ | We have a proprietary "system" of extruded aluminum components (3,4,5,6,8-sided uprights/columns and a veritable plethora of crossmembers that bolt together to create custom booths(including double-deckers), islands, pavilions, or entire show floors.
All of which is designed/assembled in AutoCAD.
Herein lies "the Rub" :
All of the X&Y-Axis specs (Length/Width) are done in Meters(and variations thereof) whilst all of the Z-Axis specs (Height) is done in Feet/Inches . . .
Now you know why I drink. |

Just as I do with words like metre, centre, amoeba etc.
There was huge emphasis on metric system here when I was in primary school, thus I never learned all the fractions of inches. I still tend to use miles though! |
