I went to Sam Ash tonight with my wife to pick up mandolin strings. There has been an Adamas II hanging there for well over a year. My wife keeps wanting me to buy it. The price has dropped a couple of times but I never felt the price was right for my comfort level. After my wife talked them down $400, I just couldn't say no. Who am I to hurt her feelings?

Got it home and cleaned it up, wow, I'm glad my wife is so persuasive!

killer deal!

you should let your wife buy something of equal value and you will STILL be ahead of the game.

She talked them down $400 (from previously posted price) or to $400 total? Either way, your wife is some kind of negotiator! Dibs after Mark.

"My wife keeps wanting me to buy it."...

WHAT'S the secret to THAT???

... And yeah, the excitement could be shared a lot more if you supplied pictures.

D'zilla…

…you have a wife that actually goes into guitar stores with you, AND she negotiates for you, AND you were able to buy a new guitar with her in the store AND it's an Adamas, no less?

I'm waiting for the part of this fairytale where you ship the guitar to me…

;)

Sorry if I was confusing (not unusual!), my wife talked them down $400 from the asking price. I got if for right around $1,000. It had been there so long, I think they just wanted to move it. She has always thought it was a pretty guitar, but I just wasn't interested at the higher price. It has some pretty serious fretwear in places, but otherwise it plays and sounds great.

What really sealed the deal for me was when I plugged it in - awesome sound! I'll take some pics soon.

Great guitar, great wife!

OK, you didn't get as great a deal on the guitar as I thought, but you still got a great deal on your wife.

My advice would be to keep 'em both…

'Zilla, my wife did pretty much the same for me. In 1995 I showed her an Adamas I 12 string at a small store. She kept after me to get it and finally, when the loan was approved on the new house, I did get it. Keeper guitar, keeper wife.

Just like you.....

Congrats!

Mine bought me the OFC guitar for my birthday,...and Father's Day,...and our anniversary,...and Christmas. After a year or so, she lost track or just gave up.

For you that have a 30th Anniversary coming up, do you have any idea how many 30th Anniversary models Ovation made? If you get permission, you could go hog wild. It might take her 3 or 4 to catch on.

There is not a single instrument purchase that my wife and I have not discussed and agreed on before the purchase...I find the guitar or gear and we talk it over...and it may not always end up that we buy it; but even so, at least we discussed it...it's how we handle everything...we're best friends and it works for us!

Since SWMBO pays all the bills, there's no getting around her consent.

I'm in the other camp. I have never discussed a guitar or any other related gear purchase with SWMBO before bringing it home, and most often, don't discuss even then. She has little interest in my guitars, and as long as I continue to pay all the bills, including hers, she doesn't care what I do in the bandroom. As Mike says, "it's how we handle everything . . . we're best friends and it works for us."
