And the Adamas line will now become a custom order only shop--no more production line. As far as Korean-built Ovations go, I don't know. China seems more likely though.

At the Roundback Revolution Roadshow someone (not me) asked about Korean-made Balladeer and Elites... (At that moment I was playing Danny's TX just to check-out a TX) According to the Company People... the factory in Korea that makes the Balladeers etc has specially trained people. Trained by Ovation USA in the USA. These are not the same crew that makes Celebrity's in China. If you read the "Any American in AX or TX?" all the way through, you will find that New Hartford is becoming a Custom Only Shop for Adamas... And maybe also for Legends and such. But I believe that if you go to the Ovation Homepage and click on the Custom Shop , they say that they will make you whatever you like. Even a Thunderbolt. So if you REALLY wanted a USA-built Elite T with quintad bracing, I guess that they could build you one for a coupla thousand bucks. The problem being, by the time you pay for a T you might be able to just buy an Adamas. (What they are doing with the Guild section, I don't know... I don't do square guitars :p )

If you can come up with the money, they will custom make you an 'LX' in the USA. As far as has been made public, all Adamas guitars will be made in USA. The website shows only a few models, but all are custom made now, there are no "standard production" guitars being made. The custom shop will do just about anything you want and can pay for, so the website isn't really accurate in the way they imply that only a few Adamas models are available. Sure wish they'd make the new website show the options for custom guitars the way the old site did. Occasionally I'd go and browse through and dream. Now it says to contact your dealer for options and pricing.

Granted the Koreans have gotten really good at making quality guitars cheaply, but how long will it be before some faceless suit at Fender decides that keeping the lights and machinery on in the 'custom shop' isn't cost effective and decides to pull the pin entirely... I sure hope that doesnt happen. It puts us all one step closer to having to learn to speak Chinese...

Without production versions in stores, it will be harder to get the brand name Adamas in the minds of potential buyers. Unless you already know about Adamas, how will you know to even consider ordering a custom version? Sounds like Ovation has a tough road ahead of itself in terms of marketing.

But you are correct, if you cannot even TRY one... Why would you shell-out Thousands of Dollars to built one? Just buy the Taylor, Larivee, Martin or Whatever that is on the shelf. Or get a 2778AX for $650 and go about you business... [ForensicGuy: I hadn't even thought of That. That is Sad :( ]
