Non-sparkling water at room temp is your only man. Or a bit of both. Also I find the more often I sing, the easier it gets (like exercise I suppose). Not sure if it sounds any better to anyone else but it feels better to me.

That said, it might be worth a try. Just don't try it right before you go on stage to perform. Lots of testimonials as to it's effectiveness. Vocal-eze

I personally like something warm though. I also know that keeping a few pebbles in your mouth will help you salivate (:

Avoid dairy products for about 3 hours before. No food two hours before. Of course, sometimes you can't avoid eating, but just roll with it. Maybe for some people mints would work, but not for me.

Start off like Tony Bennett and end up like Joe Cocker. I don't know how the gig guys can go all night. Oh wait.. yes I do. Breathing technique and exercise (aka: PRACTICE).

These will numb your throat and you can harm yourself without knowing it. While singing, go with water, at room temperature (or if you're in Brazil and temperature is in the 100's, you can drink water slightly cold). Caffeine, milk or food will demand water to be metabolized, so if you had any of them you'll need more water than usual. I also strongly advise that you get a voice coach (preferably a Bene Gesserit - they are the best). There's lots of things to do to sing comfortably. Best regards, Miguel

It sticks to your tongue, throat and pallette almost guaranteeing a crappy vocal performance. I find the best thing (for me anyways...) is hot, black coffee. It almost acts like sandpaper getting rid of phlegm (ugh!!) and other nasties. Plus it gives you a bit of an edge (always good...) around midnight. :D
