Location: Utah | It depends on the mission and price. The girls bought Asian guitars for the beach and dorms, one a Seagull the other a Jasmine (Takamine entry level). For the price they are both excellent values, and the girls won't cry if they pick up dings or cracks from misuse. A few hours of working on the setup got both into fairly good playable condition.
I would recommend a TX or AX for someone in that price range wanting a new guitar, certainly over many other brands. I myself am not looking for something new in that range.
Personally I am not in the market for anything, but the wish list includes used USA guitars or a new custom Adamas. |

Location: Orlando, FL | My take is it depends. I recently repaired the electronics on a Korean made "Parkwood" guitar for a friend of mine. At first, nobody heard of Parkwood. It fits with a Fishman pickup blending the saddle piezo with an internal mic. The guitar sounds wonderful both plugged and unplugged. I went on internet did more research of the guitar and many give it very high regards. Some people say they will prefer it over a Martin too. It was only in my hands for less than 24 hours but I have to say I like it a lot. At the end, it is a korean made guitar.....but really well built. |

CSE24 and CSE44... Their new owners were/are extremely happy with their purchase.
I have a CC54i that is annoying... I have to remind myself that the guitar was Free with a preamp.
It is not a second, but the setup sux. With a dovetail neck it will have to stay that way.
Pulled the shims, put some Silk-n-Steel on there, and the action is still high.
That said... I would buy a USO and expect it to be setup nice outta the box.
And USED with a bolt-on neck, I would be able to do a reset myself if necessary.
I personally think of Fender/Korean Ovations as expensive Celebrity's.
I would not give more than $300 for a really nice one. ($333 if it had an OHSC)
One day I might pay that much for a TX just to check it out... Then paint it camouflage. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to lump all the Asian manufacturers into one big pile.
I have had, and still have, some really nice Indonesian guitars.
And I had a really nice 1" Drive Socket Set from China... (for taking-apart Tractor-Trailers) |

And in turn who would the Chinese Ovation fans complain about. Or maybe that's already reached the bottom of the barrel
This isn't unique, Takamine does exactly the same thing - they build their pro line guitars in Japan, the mid line G series in Korea and the entry line Jasmine are split between Korea and China. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I doubt if it's how they are spec'd. I mean nobody specs a guitar with excess glue globs, misaligned fretboard and sharp fret edges.
Most likely the issue is how much time they are given to build them.
I'll bet a Legend that takes 50 hours in the US is expected to be built in 20 hours in Korea. You get what you get. Still a bargain for the money but not something that would be mentioned in a list of high quality guitars. |

3 years ago i was in Japan and they were complaining about all the cheap crap they've been importing from china, so yes, they do complain |

Location: NW of Philadelphia | My first O was a 1994 Celeb Dlx CC257, made in Korea. Still have it. Nice guitar, plays well, sounds OK, but nothing to right home about. Its my beach guitar during the summer.
My Elite-T and Balladeer 12 string have made me a firm believer in USA made O's.
Would I buy one now? Only if the price is VERY right. |
