Such very sad news... I felt Gary was the second best player on the planet (only trailing Tommy Emmanuel). He will be missed.

RIP.

My favorite Gary Moore Performance:

When I heard this terrible news, I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I grew up listening to Gary Moore and even played a few of his tunes in cover bands back in the day. He was a phenomenal guitarist with an amazing sound and feel and a true class act (in a business where class is sometimes sorely lacking...).

Initial reports said it was natural causes and I really hope it was (not that it changes anything...). Too many our great artists manage to self destruct, though from what I know about him, I don't think he was the type to go that route.

Over the hills and far away... RIP

What a shame. I just watched that performance on Paladia the other night as part of the Fender show. It was a brilliant performance. Not only did he have world class chops, he had the best guitar face ever. RIP.

Ok... I'll admit it.. I really had no idea who he was. Still don't really. I have heard the name, but then.. I have heard lots of names. Just got done listening to a bunch of YouTube videos's and didn't recognize a single lick. I've played a couple-three Thin Lizzy tunes, but not ones involving Gary. Not surprising as I can only handle the blues in short bursts... but indeed an amazing guitarist from what I have seen/heard tonight. What a shame as he was still quite young too.

I saw him open for Rush at the Cow Palace back in the 80s and was a fan since. In the recent demo I just did we had a tune that where I felt it was pretty obvious that I was ripping off Moore's tone, but everyone thinks it's a Santana inspired piece instead.

RIP Gary, no more blues for you.

It's one thing to play the blues but it's another thing entirely to feel the blues when you play:
Here is a definitive primer:
Still Got the Blues - Live - Gary Moore
Arguably the best tone in Blues
Echo what Damon said...
Thanks Gary!

"Arguably the best tone in Blues..."

And one of the most expensive considering that's and original '59 Les Paul he is playing.

It's great to see these things get played instead of locked in a vault somewhere.

A "douche chill" is a negative, but it sounds like you liked him?

As reported by the BBC 2-8-11 Guitarist Gary Moore 'died of heart attack'. Initial post-mortem results have indicated that Belfast-born musician Gary Moore died from a heart attack. The former Thin Lizzy and Skid Row guitarist died early on Sunday, hours after arriving at a hotel in the Costa Del Sol. Spanish police said although toxicology tests on bodily fluids are still to be completed; at this stage they are not treating death as suspicious. A judge is expected to authorize the release of the body to the family soon. The Northern Ireland guitarist was only 16 when he moved from Belfast to Dublin in 1969, to join Skid Row, which featured Phil Lynott as lead vocalist. He was later brought into Thin Lizzy by frontman Lynott to replace the departing Eric Bell, another guitarist from Northern Ireland. Moore also gained acclaim for his solo work and performed on stage with a range of major artists and released 20 studio albums. On Monday, Bob Geldof said Moore was "without question, one of the great Irish bluesmen". "His playing was exceptional and beautiful. We won't see his like again," he said.
