Where do you mainly play your Ovation?

(Or maybe it's just that a few of you do, but those folks post a lot.) So just wondering what your primary venue for playing Ovations is and whether or not any of you actually make a living with your guitars. Personally, I jam with a few other guys maybe once or twice a month and otherwise just play for myself. Always trying to improve of course. Lately I've discovered there are these things called 'scales' . . .

The world is safer, maybe me too, where I am. I envy and admire those that have the talent, 'balls' and self-confidence to perform exto-garage. ![]()

In winter when it's cold and we play indoors, I play my Morgan Monroe, because it's a small room and that guitar is so loud it doesn't need to be miked. In the summer on the outdoor stage I play my Legend through a small Crate with just a touch of chorus. I play occasionally at Joel's Dakota Grill, and they have their own system. I NEED to plug in there 'cause the place is huge. In the summer here they have all kinds of events in one of the parks, and I usually wind up playing at them. Of course I play the Ovation at those events too. Do I make a living at it? Heck no. That's why I opened a music store. I still get to be surrounded by music and musicians, but they BUY things from me, and so far, after two years I'm still paying the bills.

I did play an O though. There's a local stoner-rock band that's been courting me. They play local joints a couple nights a week, but I'm unsure that I want to do the band thing again, so I've been working on doing some solo things (hence my recent obsession for acoustics). I've about 20 songs down. Once I get the nerve to do a solo performance I'll let y'all know. I think my singing needs to improve drastically, though others say I'm over critical. My son's been playing at church and for a bit I was thinking of joining up over there, then I realized that meant they'd probably expect me to show up every Sunday. Aside from all that, there's a group of friends I get together with for fun as often as possible. Usually 2-3 times a month. I'm still much better just standing off to the side plugged into something with a bunch of watts. For the record though, it's usually a solid Ovation in my hands.

I used to play at some local taverns and bars about 3 to 4 times a month, but they always want a soloist on weeknights. I'd start around 8 or 9 'o clock, play till midnite or 1am, by the time I'd pack up get home and unpack I was gettin to bed around 2:30-3:00am and get up at 5:00am to go to work. I could handle that when I was 30ish but not now !! Seems as though a lot of places are doing happy hour stuff and earlier hours for weeknight entertainment, so I'm practicin up to give it a spin again. And with the $100 to $150 bucks extra I could earn at a gig, I MIGHT be able to fill my gas tank !

I envy and admire those that have the talent, 'balls' and self-confidence to perform exto-garage. - Since my O has the PU Assy for live performances, I play exto-garage as one of two adults in the youth band at the kids' church. It is primarily an opportunity to spend a few hours with two of my kids each week. The band's myspace is linked at the bottom here. In the band I play electric guitar about 60% of the time, and the O the other 40% My 10th grade daughter and her friend have their own duet that is locally popular, and they both play O's. The daughter has a red flame elite T, and her friend a 1778LX. They play at various venues around the Salt Lake valley. Their Myspace is www.myspace.com/rebekkahgoesswimming , but be warned that their recordings are a work in process.

When the audience is present, I'm required to play a solidbody through a headphone amp. I play a five minute set, then my fingers get tired and I lose my grip. I'd like to play the garage, but it's full of "projects" so there's no space. Thank you very much, I'll be here all week! -Steve W.

FlySig , This is the best statement posted here within this site that I've read! You're da MAN... We may kid around, or get downright serious, maybe even cynical and/or obtuse, but you've provided a flash of what really counts. Bless you sir!
