I only took an electric up there and played for about an hour. No internet, no TV, turned off the cell phone and stayed busy having fun pulling all the little kids in the family around with the boat. I was tired every night and wasn't doing anything but driving. The last time we had a family reunion up there was for our 30th Anniversary, where I unveiled the OFC I. An acoustic would have been more appropriate, but there just wasn't time or room to play. Only other Ovation connection was listening to Adrian Legg and Waskel on the CD player on the way back this morning. You held up pretty well in the comparison, John.

No kids were killed or even injured during the event and some of them were just old enough to be enjoyable. They were at that very brief preteen stage. The only quiet times, though, were before they got up at around 10 and on the trip back by myself. I appreciate that, Mark. Sounds like you had a good time. Did all the kids survive? I was a bit worried about playing Rest while driving on a few hours sleep, but I did fine. I was trying to figure out how you got all those harmonies layered in with the guitar parts. I'm sure it had something to do with computers.

Liking this song though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPUMthAXJ-o but anyway… That is a GREAT song, I've said it many times before, but it bears repeating; Guy Clark is one of the all-time greatest song crafters, bar none. He's pushing 70, and battling health issues, but he's still writing great songs and touring. Since this thread started out about boredom, how about a little reading material to fill the void? Here\'s a nice article about Guy…

I remember either Van Zandt or Clark saying that when they both got to feeling high and mighty they'd read some Dylan Thomas which would bring them back down to earth. Yeah I was going to mention about the Steve Earle pic but figured I'd leave some room...lol Could be that whoever posted the youtube saw Heartworn Highway and got Clark and Earl mixed up - I think the youtube track was on that film. They song fits my voice and I'll use it but my version isn't ready to go yet - that and I don't have anything to record with and wouldn't know how to post it if I did. I do a couple other of his songs: Immigrant Eyes and Desperados.

Guy Clark was part of a singer/songwriter tour a couple of years back where he shared the stage with Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt. That was a great show. A local I play with pulled LA Freeway out of his songbook a couple of weeks back and wants to put it into the set. So I tracked down a version with a second guitar part ... and yeah it was a Jerry Jeff Walker version. Check it out ... and oh, yeah ... JJW is playing an Elite ('84C?).
