I'm writing a song about sex & politics.
I need some help with the words for the sex part and some advise and opinions about the political part.

You've come to the right place! Except no sex or politics. What else ya got? Maybe a nice used car you could sing about? How 'bout the Viper Knob Blues?

Brad,
I usually don't post about anything to do with politics. Haven't you heard about a local congressman of mine? Mr. Weiner and his first and middle name isn't Oscar Mayer.

After turning a weekend at the cabin into a 3 day weekend, cancelled my guitar lesson on Tuesday and took another day. I only took an electric up there and played for about an hour.
No internet, no TV, turned off the cell phone and stayed busy having fun pulling all the little kids in the family around with the boat. I was tired every night and wasn't doing anything but driving.
The last time we had a family reunion up there was for our 30th Anniversary, where I unveiled the OFC I. An acoustic would have been more appropriate, but there just wasn't time or room to play. Only other Ovation connection was listening to Adrian Legg and Waskel on the CD player on the way back this morning. You held up pretty well in the comparison, John.

I appreciate that, Mark. Sounds like you had a good time.

Did all the kids survive?

I just found my copy of the "REST" CD this morning when I was cleaning out an area of the den.

Haven't heard it in a while so gonna pop it in the player later tonight.

When the boat starts, it's a good day. No kids were killed or even injured during the event and some of them were just old enough to be enjoyable. They were at that very brief preteen stage. The only quiet times, though, were before they got up at around 10 and on the trip back by myself.
I was a bit worried about playing Rest while driving on a few hours sleep, but I did fine. I was trying to figure out how you got all those harmonies layered in with the guitar parts. I'm sure it had something to do with computers.

Been working this one up for an hour or two - still more to do like learn all the words and get the picking round the V chord. Liking this song though:

I'm not sure why that video for a Guy Clark song has a photo of (a very young) Steve Earle in it instead of Guy… (and I actually thought you were giving us a link to your version?) ;)

but anyway…

That is a GREAT song,

I've said it many times before, but it bears repeating; Guy Clark is one of the all-time greatest song crafters, bar none. He's pushing 70, and battling health issues, but he's still writing great songs and touring.

Since this thread started out about boredom, how about a little reading material to fill the void?

Here\'s a nice article about Guy…

Thanks for the article - good points about keeping it simple and leaving room so the listener can become involved.

I remember either Van Zandt or Clark saying that when they both got to feeling high and mighty they'd read some Dylan Thomas which would bring them back down to earth.

Yeah I was going to mention about the Steve Earle pic but figured I'd leave some room...lol Could be that whoever posted the youtube saw Heartworn Highway and got Clark and Earl mixed up - I think the youtube track was on that film.

They song fits my voice and I'll use it but my version isn't ready to go yet - that and I don't have anything to record with and wouldn't know how to post it if I did.

I do a couple other of his songs: Immigrant Eyes and Desperados.

It's the fumes that'll get you.

Guy Clark was part of a singer/songwriter tour a couple of years back where he shared the stage with Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt. That was a great show.

A local I play with pulled LA Freeway out of his songbook a couple of weeks back and wants to put it into the set. So I tracked down a version with a second guitar part ... and yeah it was a Jerry Jeff Walker version. Check it out ... and oh, yeah ... JJW is playing an Elite ('84C?).
