Her husband is deployed as a Cobra pilot(USMC)to somewhere in the Middleeast. This all sounds like De ja vu for me, as I was deployed when my wife and 4 kids were hit by hurricane Hugo. It sucks being gone when stuff like this happens. She will be ok though...evacuating to the west side of Virginia. I've been through 4 major hurricanes and one Typhoon ... It isn't worth taking a chance ... if you're told to evacuate, leave. It's a good time to take your guitars some place safe and get in some practice.

We lost power for ten days after Ike, the roads were blocked by fallen trees/branches/debris for a long time, but at least we were able to recharge cell phones, etc. in the car, so we could contact distant family members once the cell towers were repaired, which was much sooner than electricity was restored. my only fear is the power going out so far high winds and rain After days of high heat and humidity, a few minutes in an air-conditioned car while charging a phone was a relief. A tank of gas lasts a long time if you are just idling. If you have a generator, better still, but the car can be useful even if you can't drive anywhere. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you on the East Coast. Stay safe.

I have an overflowing pool filled with limbs and leaves...all the A's & O's are on high ground. If we can just make it thru the next 3-4 hours, our strongest recorded gust right up the road was 49mph. TnT

Joined: April 2006 Posts: 1017 Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Even though I am about 60 miles inland, I'm taking this seriously, because for us, the danger won't be storm surge, but falling trees--this is about the wettest August we've ever had, and the ground is already saturated. Once the trees start to go, the power won't be too far behind........ So...the tub is full (no, it's not bathtub gin ;) ), enough non-cook food for a few days, a full tank of gas, and the girls in the stable at hand to keep one occupied. I had the foresight to request Monday as a vacation day, so if I am unable to get to work, at least I can stay home without being docked for it...... And...for me, this is an "Earth, Wind and Fire" week--we had the "earth" part the other day with the quake, the "fire" part yesterday at work with a non-threatening electrical fire that evacuated the building and sent people home early, and later tonight the "wind" starts. Gee...almost sounds like a bad country-western song. --Karen
