It's alway "that" song that must be played at a jam. Everyone knows the chords but when the vocal "And... and ... aaaand" comes around it just flies off the rails.

We avoided Wild Horses for a long time but have grown to like it.

I have rarely if ever heard it played live by anybody other than Daltrey or The Who.
When I played it at my gig a couple weeks ago it went over really well. |

Pretty much a non-issue because I only ever play stuff that I think is worth saying - got no innarest in playing dumbass crap just for the sake of it, or because people like it or because everyone knows the chords and it's a good sing along at the local knees-up or because it was a top 10 POS back in someone's day. |

For the most part Brian & I enjoy the more obscure but recognizable songs. Plenty of those out there.

I play Freebird, and Knockin', and Behind Blue Eyes, and I play Cat's in the Cradle...
(all my own personal interpretations of those songs)
I do a finger-picked version of House of the Rising Sun that many seem to like.
(I'm sure House is on a few people's No Play list)
I'm not a virtuoso and I play what I have learnt.
If there is something that I don't like, I would not have taken the time to learn it.
I mean... I know Sunshine of your Love and Smoke on the Water but I don't play them. |

There are some opportunites to "own" one of those overdone, over played, over cooked tunes by playing it differently. I enjoy the Chris Cornell version of "Billy Jean".
Hayseed Dixie does a fine job with AC/DC covers.
But the risks are high... |

And it's precisley those reasons that the ones we do well come out that way, isn't it?
I would say it's also the exact reason the ones we DON'T want to do come out so horribly. |

I've seen bobbo play this.
When you first hear this your first thought, like mine, will be ..."Oooo gotta stop and watch... there's a train wreck a-comin'!"
Next thing I know I'm sucked in, singing along and wondering if I'll ever be able to turn a song on it's ear and make it work like that.
And here I thought I had made some brave song choices in my time.
