Joined: March 2005 Posts: 2793 Location: Atlanta, GA. | After much deliberation, I've decided to offer my Adamas "slothead" For Sale. Model # 1687-8 Ser # 0045-92 with OHSC. under edit: re: OHSC - This Ovation hard case is the plain tan version and does not have the gold speckles on it. A NOS case cover has recently been acquired and is included. I won't bore anyone with a description, but I must disclose what I consider to be issues with the instrument. 1 - The strap ring at the base of the neck was broken off when I bought the guitar. The screw portion remains in the neck. samova graciously donated a replacement ring which is included. 2 - The joint where the neck attaches to the block on the body has a slight ridge to it. There is no separation between the joints, it's just that you can feel the ridge when rubbed with your finger. I've attempted to capture both of these items in the photos. $10,000.00 if shipped within North America $12,500.00 if shipped anywhere else. Sorry, any trades will not be considered. Thank You.

I can't afford 10 grand and am hoping to get away for less than half that for the OFC. Believe me, if I had the money, I'd have this guitar. But I have a wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a mortgage I can't afford. And on $200 a day plus expenses....

Yet, will be consoled with the Serge's CA, Hamer Newport 12, 2005 Collector's, 12-fret Adamas, and the OFC. Someone will buy it and will have a treasure.

Or is that bridge similar to the impregnated walnut fingerboard? 4 Is the binding similar to the pick guard (substance wise), since they seem to be the same color? 5. lastly, how many slotheads have the speckled bowl coloring? It is kinda cool. I hope someone at OFC ends up with it, but as for me, OFC reissue is much more realistic. besides I think the frozen burrito that looked like satan was more real looking then the pretzel that looked like the madonna and child., even if it did "only" sell on ebay for $1000. Good Luck Colin, peace mike

So, likely this trend will continue and we'll see another one of these beauties available sometime next year. The re-issue will probably hurt the value. This guitar is worth every bit of 10 ger to someone, but frankly to me the re-issue is MUCH more appealing.

I think i like the idea of everyone chiping in and let it reside say, 4 weeks of the year with each member who donates cash for the cause. It's be a first.. but it may keep fellow members from drooling all over their computer keyboards.

StandingO, More of a clumsy attempt to keep it close to home... If nothing else, this certainly squelched all the inquiries I was receiving!

I believe it may be the impregnated walnut that's been waxed, but not positive (Sam? Bill??) 4 The binding around the top is a one-piece ring of fibreglass that has a pattern carved into it, and also has a bit of gold accents applied to it (some are more gold than others). When I'd heard the news that there was gonna be a SlotHead Re-Issue, I had mixed emotions. I was very glad that these fabulous guitars would be a available to wider group of people (especially the fanatics enrolled herein), but I was somewhat reticent in that the re-issue would have a bit of an adverse effect on the "street value" of the original SlotHeads. In reflection, I've come to the realization that having the reissue available will probably mean a good degree of potential buyers (who are looking for this as the KICK-ASS guitar that it IS) will probably opt for the re-issue (which I assume will be a substantially lesser price). This means that the prime target audience will become a more finite concentration of Ovation/Adamas Fanatics/Collectors that will want this for the the GUITAR that it IS, but more importantly, the guitar that it REPRESENTS. Without running the risk of offending any of our Japanese brethren (not my intent), I fear that this guitar will end up leaving the country and end up there. In a private e-mail exchange, Al made a very good analogy in that there have been numerous re-issues of '59 LesPauls that have all sold rather well. Ultimately, it had no adverse effect on the collectibilty/value of the original '59LP's. People STILL covet them for both the guitar itself, and the "mojo" contained therein . . . Cwk2 once made the analogy that these original guitars were Ovation's version of Martin's legendary Pre-War HolyGrail. They are tangiable testaments to Charlie's (and Bill's) "Master Stroke". I would readily assume that they were executed with a great degree light-headed enthusiasm (a degree of which was probably resin fumes :-) Caution was thrown to the wind, and all talents and resources were thrown AT these guitars to make them the best they could possibly be (sonically and aesthethically). The result was nothing short of absolutely STUNNING. Granted, there are NOT a lot of people that'll readily plunk down TenLarge for the guitar itself. But I would like to think that there are those out there that would appreciate that value of posessing a piece of Ovation History in which Charlie probably "sighted" and carressed each neck for possible imperfections, and that somewhere in between the layers of hand-laid fibreglass you might find a strand or two of Bill's hair (when he had more of it ;-) Do I think it worth $10K? Yup. Do I think somebody'll pay that much for it? Not right away (I don't think). But I do think that eventually it will sell. Sadly, I think it'll end up residing somewhere over the meridian . . . where Ovations get the respect that they deserve. (But that's what THIS place is all about. . . . isn't it??)
