Whilst the merits of mineral oil has been discussed at length in various posts this thread is not about that. It's about where to buy it (and what is it branded as) in the good old United Kingdom.

So UK residents probably only, any suggestions on where to buy it and what it's actually branded as?

Many thanks.

Dweezil, see if you can find Gerlitz Guitar Honey. It's mineral oil with some other stuff in it (i believe a bit of beezwax).

That's the stuff you want. Here it costs about $5 US for a little bottle that will last you 5-10 years.

Thanks. Interesting, from Gerlitz's FAQ...

"Without giving away our formula, I can tell you that 'Guitar Honey' is a mineral oil based formula, which is blended with a very high grade of mineral spirits (for cleansing) along with other proprietary ingredients which give a smooth (not greasy) feel & finish to an instrument's fingerboard. It contains NO silicones or other ingredients which would be harmful to an instrument's fingerboard, frets, binding, finish, inlays or structural adhesives, when used as instructed. "

So it's not 100% pure mineral oil, I wonder...

Like I said, I think there's beeswax in it.

That's a good thing. Protects. Google it if you like. Same thing is used for expensive cutting boards.

I've been using it for a Loooooooooong time. Good stuff. I wouldn't lie to ya man! ;)

Sorry, I'm not in the UK (but I've lived there) and I've never been able to decipher what mineral oil is either.

Until tonight. With the magic of Google, I now know.

From http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-mineral-oil.htm

"While not everyone is aware, baby oil is simply mineral oil that has been enhanced with a small amount of fragrance."

I always thought that mineral oil was paraffin oil and that paraffin oil was kerosene.

see it's not just me that has a problem working out what this mythical stuff is. Now I'm not going to use baby oil on my Ovations thats for sure SWMBO will think I've finally lost it!

So the search continues...

Go to your local 'super mart', drug store or apothecary and look in the 'laxative' section. Or, ya might just ask the 'help'. Just don't refer to it as a guitar medication...

The point of this thread is that a lot of the advice on ORF is directed towards US people.

I'm in the IK.

We do not have 'Marts'.
We do not have 'Super Marts'.
We do not have 'drug stores'...

...and even if we did we wouldn't have laxative sections. You guys are nuts!!!

So back to the original question, "So UK residents probably only, any suggestions on where to buy it and what it's actually branded as?"

NO NOT BABY OIL!

JUST PURE 100% MINARAL OIL!

BS, we're trying to answer your non-ending questions in a way that you can help yourself.

I'm in the IK.
Enjoying the malt and hops?

We do not have 'Marts'.
We do not have 'Super Marts'.
We do not have 'drug stores'...
BS again! Been there, saw some of 'em... over twenty years ago! In fact, drop into the 'so called' oldest apothecary just off of Trafalgar Square the next time you're in London. They might even have a web site by now...

...and even if we did we wouldn't have laxative sections. You guys are nuts!!!
Now, this may explain the attitude. Man, you need some! If ya want, I'll send ya two bottles on my dime, err, ummm, pound; one for your fretboards and the other for you. Seriously, my dime...

So back to the original question, "So UK residents PROBABLY only, any suggestions on where to buy it and what it's actually branded as?"
Ya left the door open with the "probably".

NO NOT BABY OIL!
Bad memories?

JUST PURE 100% MINARAL OIL!
Good luck in your quest... My offer still stands.

Geez...

Funny, I thought the point of this thread was to help you find some mineral oil to use on your fretboards.

It should be noted that you're on a US website, run by US people, that's about a US guitar manufacturer, that's sold most of it's products to US citizens.

So what are you wanting? Would you like us to make this site all about people from the UK?

As much as I like MOST the non-US people in this group, you're now starting to annoy me. I've done my best to help you, as have many others.

If you're not happy with the level of service you're receiving, then buzz off. Rub some friggin crumpets on your fretboard for all I care now.

Too bad there's not an ignore button.

Woah! Easy there buddy!

1. I wasn't aware that this was a US exclusive club/site/manufactuer/guitar/etc. Are you really saying Ovations are for US citizens only, everyone else f*** off!??!?!! If the admin tells me this a US site only then please let me know - I'll be gone!

2. No, I do not want to make this site for UK people only, this thread is simply intended for me (and other UK citiznes) to try and find out a product that I (we) could go and buy, by name, that might help me (us) take care of our (their) Ovation. Yes even though it's a US product we, in the UK are allowed to buy it here (let's not get political, really let's not).

3. If my questions annoy you, simply ignore them! Simple. Do you realy have to respond?

4. What crumpets? Do you have a brand in mind? It ought to be pointed out that crumpets are no longer available in the UK since the European Union legislation had it's way.

Jeez man chill! Is it me or are you unreasonably aggressive?

-- Many thanks everyone else for being kind enough to post some links to help, it's really appreciated.

If you've got a problem with Baby Oil, then you DEFINITELY don't want to to with Noah's offering.

If you want to find out what something is called in your own country, you should try your own country first. eg, you wouldn't ask in an Australian forum what Vegemite was called in the UK (or even IK) Most Aussies wouldn't have a clue. (or even care.)

Now, if you hadn't got your nappy all twisted up, and you were still too lazy to go to your local guitar shop or large chain store Chemist, you could have gotten one of our "nutty" US based brethren to send you some. There are dozens here that would have offered. (Actually, I think one did!)

I think you may have just sunk that ship though. :(
