I am seeing several selling on ebay in the $1100 range, and may go after one of those, but thought I would post here to see if there is any interest. If so, shoot me a private message or email me at 'jeffreyrdavis at yahoo.com' Thanks to everyone in this group for your advice and comments. I am hoping that the Adamas will make a great stablemate for my 1537.

No more single hole guitars...she thinks the epulets and holes are "cute". I don't care what she calls it as long as that endearment she has for it get's me an Adamas. Anyone know anything about Elderly Instruments in Michigan. They have a Cobalt Blue that looks to be close (if they will negotiate a bit).

Then you will have one of the best wood top guitars and one of the best Adamas guitars. Looks awesome and has a booming yet clear ringing tone/voice that must be heard in person to believe it. Just my 2 cents (always great when it isn't my money!) :D

And it is stuck in the garage right now....but my 1537 has been out to play with me twice today already (before I went to work and at home for lunch). Hey...has anyone noticed how nice of a guitar the 1537's are. I know that no one talks about them much...but boy they sound, look and feel sweet. I should send it back to Ovation and have it rebuilt...but wait....WHY!!! it is near perfect now....WHAT WAS I THINKING. Oh...there is a 681 on brother bobby's site right now for $1699. Looks pretty sweet, but I am quite concerned with the higher price and wider neck than the 597. Is that the same or wider than my 1537? I have pretty small hands, so can't go much wider than what I have now. Me and classicals do not get along.

Definately not a classical sized neck.....same as my Adamas 1581 & 1681 (which I believe is the same as the 1537).

That guitar has massive balls, the cutaway and the neck. I just played both the U681T and the 1581 reissue and man......you can't go wrong either way. Since it sounds like you to plan to own just a couple of guitars, then spend a little more and get one you will never get tired of or wish for something else. If you like your 1537, either of these two Adamas will absolutely blow you away! I am sure Al has some available for a great price or check out these: Sigler Music / Adamas 1581 reissue ![]()

Then you could show us your airplane and 1537 and let your wife tell mine how we deserve whatever we want for Christmas. Then we would leave before they start swapping stories about us. I'll try to remember this plan next time I drive past Hermiston. Then we could see your new Adamas. It doesn't sound like you could go wrong with any of them. I wish they had some around here to try out.

I recently got a Millenium (essentially a w597 dressed up for the party) and love it. Goes well with my 1681 too. I do like the sound of the U681, but not a fan of the slot head (which is why I have a black 1681). I think you can't go wrong. Call Al. If he has what you want, it is the place to get it.

As far as them going down, you can ASK.....they've had that one a while. It was there when I was there last July, I believe. Roger

Nice enough folks, but they just said they don't dicker. Had my credit card all ready to go too. Thanks Stephen on the craigslist point out. I have sent him an email, but really am kind of looking for the woven top model. After all, that's what you all said was the better of the two. I am negotiating on a natural 597 right now that is a late model also with the newer electronics, so hope to hear in the next day or so on that. I am finding that the 597 and 1597s are out there in the $900 to $1100 range if you are patient, so I shall be patient.

After not finding a suitable replacement right away, my wife suggested we try another Goldwing (I bet you guys are jealous...and yes, she does have two unmarried sisters, but I am quite sure they would not be as understanding). So right now we are planeless which is why I am able to consider an Adamas. But....if I find an airplane before the Adamas, well....the tune may change. So now you know why I really want to find the right Adamas now as it may be my last guitar purchase for some time.

Jeff, I am confused. The one on craiglist is a model 1597. Isn't that one of the ones you were interested in?

Joined: September 2004 Posts: 777 Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Well I really want the 597, but again, if it is as good of a deal as it looks, I don't want to rule it out. At $900, that is still pretty cheap and the ruby is a nice color. I have a line on two 597s that I am working, but they are $200 to $400 higher and getting the deals closed is a real pain as the retailers are not real responsive in call backs and such. I am waiting for an email from the guy on the 1597 just to see if I want to proceed. I think that Al had a similar one for sale at $1297 on ebay, so $900 looks to be a pretty good price, but the risk bothers me with the distance issue and no knowledge of the seller. Pretty big ticket to get stiffed on.

Looks like a really good deal. Apparently a 2001 or 2002 model, but looks pretty sweet, so if I can feel good about spending that kind of money remotely, I may jump on this one.
