I prefer to play the Adamas. The neck shape fits my hand better. Very nice guitar. No finish cracks. There are a few dings it has aquired along the way over the last 23 years. All minor. None since I've owned it. Good action and the famous 1537 sound. Both Stephen and Tony Calman can comment on this guitar. Tough decision, but I've got a hankerin' for a 12 fret. Pics in the Gallery. $900 shipped to your door (Cont US) with new 1818's.

For the last few days I have played nothing but wooden box guitars. Just a phase I'm going through. Last night a picked up and strummed few chords on the 1537 and my immediate reaction was, hmmm ... that's pretty nice. Dave

My quandry is: send final payment to Al send final payment for BW electronics watch Seesquare's SS on Fleabay watch broken Papoose on Fleabay Can't watch the Adamas 12 on Fleabay Assemble an original Breadwinner and then have play money. With a 12 string on the way I dare not upset the balance until something else goes away. so many guitars, so little discipline.

This is one that got away from me because of timing, but I'm happy with the one I got from Noah. My current GAS is for a U681T and Blues is bidding on the one on ebay, so I'll let that one pass. Fortunately, I'm very experienced at passing GAS. If there is ever a time when I have more money, there won't be any U681Ts left.

That's due to the higher quality spruce in the top and the floating fingerboard extension, but there are probably other factors as well. To my ears, the 1537 sounds like a cross between a high end wood box guitar and a deep bowl Adamas. Could someone please point out the differences between these 1537's and a typical late 80's early 90's 1718 elite...? Thank you in advance.. Ernie Plugged-in the 1718 is better. The OP-24 pre-amp sounds significantly better than the older stereo FET. Acoustically, the 1718 is still a very nice guitar, it's just not the same as a 1537 even though from an external appearance standpoint they appear very similar.

Thought I got a deal until the guitar arrived in what was basically an ovation case that was more foam than black plastic. Guitar had major surface/lacquer cracks, electronics that did not work, a fingerboard that was nastier than anyhing I had seen before, 4 rusty strings and a bold, beautiful 1537 type sound!. Played around with it for a few months, then sent it back to the factory, thinking that I could get the major damage repaired fairly cheap...NOT!.... I think the factory basically rebuilt it from the ground up because it looks, plays, and sounds fantastic. I don't know if a new neck was used or this one just had beautiful wood once all the dirt/crap was removed. I know something was done because the ding in the neck that was there when I sent it in was gone. The new electronics (which I assume were the newer reissued version) sounds absolutely devastating....much better than the old ones on my 2-1537s (at least to my ears)! Was the repair expensive...YES Was it worth it....ABSOLUTELY! Once again I have been amazed and astounded by the magic that the mothership can perform.

Joined: September 2004 Posts: 777 Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I just spoke with John at Ovation...what a nice guy. He said to redo the top (one little ol finish crack and that's all) was $350 or so. I may wait for summer and do that now that I have the Adamas to fill in. The 1537 has been such an incredibly good guitar for me, it deserves it.
