My first thought was "What was wrong with the original pickups?" Seems like they could have used some that fit better, but this is way beyond me.

Somehow I don't think this is a person familiar with guitars.

"the end where you tune it"?

It's a UKII, and I'm the current bidder, webtech2n2d. Yes, it's mis-identified and mis-catagorized, but, I figure that's good for bidders.

Then my lips are sealed! Go Edzep!

BTW - Seeing "kids"wearing reprints of the Led Zep "Song Remains the Same" T-shirt that I bought AT the concert in the Kingdome in 78-79 makes me feel somewhat ancient.

I know the feeling on age and kids' Hendrix/Clapton, etc. T-shirts. My nick actually refers to a member of the tribute/parody band Dread Zeppelin. The band plays most Zep tunes in Reggae, and the lead singer is an Elvis impersonator.

Later version. Probably the last or next to last type. Don't think that case is deep enough to fit the UK II properly.

Stephent28 and BruDeV, any other notable observations? Looks pretty clean to me. I have a few questions in to the seller, but, not too hopeful they will be answered, since the seller does not specialize in guitars. Thanks

Mark, yeah, I think the pickup plates are an unfortunate aspect of the UKII design. Seems more appropriate to a prototype, than to a production guitar.

It may just be reflection, but the two bottom knobs appear to have silver caps instead of gold.

Just a guess but, based on the lighting difference on that part of the body, I would say it is just reflection.

Some of the "gold" caps were actually silver with a clear yellow plastic over them. Sometimes the plastic would peel off.

My little sister bought me 5,000,000 way back when it first came out. Nobody I knew had ever heard of them. I love it, especially 'Stir it up' and 'Do the claw.' Not typical Dread Zep (at that time) stuff. Although, oddly, you'd think a Marley tune *would* be typical, but...well, you get it. ;)

BruDeV: Thanks for the notes on knob caps.

cruster: I've got Un-led-ed, but you got me on 5,000,000 so I just ordered a used disc via Amazon.

Edzep, if the one on ebay doesn't work out for you, I have a really nice one I am willing to sell. Pics in my gallery.

If anyone is still following this thread, the UKII went for a premium of $995, which also appears to have been the reserve. My max was $927, and only because I liked the color and finish, while finding most UKII's unattractive.

You've got to go back and read the BIG RED addenda added by the seller/client. I'm tempted to say they are ignorant fools for still maintaining the guitar was a Preacher Deluxe. But, hey, they did get a pretty price for it.

That would be an even better deal for the seller if it had been a preacher delux.

I have a UK2 in my gallery for sale but it is the tobacco sunburst with bow tie inlays.

I'm stunned the UKII would fetch this. Just a couple of years ago you could pick them for $300 consistently. Wow.

UKII's seem to be consistently around 600-800 now. Maybe the public is finally waking up.

It reminds me a lot of the value for a Gibson L-6S, a seriously good guitar that combines the best of a Les Paul with an SG. You could pick them up in near mint for $300+ a few years ago. Now they seem to be in that $750 - 1000 range. Still a great bargain at that price....just like the UK2.
