Purchased in 1991 in NYC as a blem store display model. It has a few dings, two quite noticeable ones were there when I bought it. (But I loved the sound so much, I bought it anyway. It needed a good home...) and 3 that were my own DOH! moments. It still plays great, though It keep it in its case when not playing it, always has been in a smoke-free environment. Had it re-set-up and checked last year, and the tech declared it to be a sound guitar. Okay, after that long intro...I'd be grateful for advice on how much this would/should go for if I decided to sell it. My guitar preferences have changed over the years, and I rarely play this one. But dings and all, it's still a great guitar. (I rarely used it plugged, but I believe the electronics are still in good shape. Would have it checked to make sure.) Thank you in advance for your help.

I paid $375 for my 1713 in perfect condition with no case. I figured that was cheap or I wouldn't have bought it. Check ebay completed listings for other comparables. (My apologies to Al for using "a lot" a lot.)

And I understand about the troll/sellers who are looking to unload their merchandise. But I figured that Ovation fans would be good sources to ask first. I've tried to do a google search on the guitar model and have not gotten the info I am looking for. Just want help and info, that's all. In the end, I may just trade in the guitar to help finance a new instrument purchase plan to make. Wish there was a Blue Book type source to refer to. I like black guitars in general, but they do not appeal to traditional classical musicians. Look for someone interested in doing a goth version of classical gas. Dave

Cool piece of info. And it's definitely a 1763 model, the label confirms. I don't know why I didn't think of storing that fact somewhere in this shell aka my brain. Thank you so much.Nvr2, Check Reference with the serial number, at least you can know what year it was manufactured.

There is a lot to learn and share around here, hang around! I would like to have a guitar like yours if you decide on a price. BTW - I am currently cheap and Broke! You say that your guitar interests have changed. Where are they today?

The cedar does seem to sound especially good with the nylon strings. I assume the Spanish pine was also an attempt to get a little more of that Flamenco sound. I hope I never get to the point of having to sell mine. If I do, it will either mean I am bankrupt or I have so many guitars that I can't handle anymore. I can't imagine how many that would be.

I took classical guitar way back in the day, taught myself the rest (which is not too much - LOL-) and ended up taking a hiatus for umm...a decade or so. But since I've returned as a prodigal daughter to guitar playing, I've gone back to playing classical (with a traditional La Patrie classical); and have also gone toward folk and bluegrass with my steel string acoustic (Seagull S6 Folk). Thank you again for the welcome.

My current classical guitar has a solid cedar top with solid indian rosewood back. It's a great combination... makes even my hack playing sound pretty good. The one thing I have always liked about my Ovation Classic is the volume of sound it's able to generate, even when unplugged.Nvr2Late, after you've done your research here and on ebay, you'll probably note that the 1713s and 1763s had cedar tops, as opposed to Spanish Pine or spruce. This is the last of the Gas I have on my Long and quickly completing list of Guitars. I love my Old and very cracked and wrinkled Classical. But it does not look good on stage. and although it has great character and I will most likely keep it for that beach guitar it's just not cutting it with the Duo thing anymore. And please feel free to make your self at home... look aound for a while. If your changing your style there are a bunch of guitars in here for sale from members. There has not been one member who has ever ripped someone off and there never will be be. We are a very honest bunch. Take a look at the guitars for sale here in the Lost Art And Vintage Instruments site. Enjoy and good luck Randy

It looks lke it has been floating in a lake for a while then dried out fast. For some reason it still sounds like nothing I have ever played as far as Nylon Stringers go. It has the old Fiberglass body too. Electronics still work great. I need something that looks good on stage now. I hate to be Vain but it does not look as "charming" to others, watching me play, as I know this guitar to be. I have emailed our new seller about this guitar but I am not sure of just how bad the dings are? If they are fairly bad She will have a tough time with this one. Black is a flashy looking guitar under the lights. And someone wanting a Black one will want the looks more than others perhaps and the black shows a mile away. And like someone said earlier the more traditional guitarists will at least want the natural top. Worth taking a look at the photo's though. Might not be to bad. It is the last for me. well for a while. Then the OFC guitar will come out... and on & on & on... Randy

Ovations are the Best Bang for the Buck going as far as Guitars are concened. Luck would have it that our new member lives in the Great State of NY. and She is also a Skier! So she Travels to the good stuff up here in the highlands. This may work out quite well. Perhaps no Shipping worries. By the way Mark in Boise; Your getting close. Oddly enough my magical Number was "13" But with a bunch of selling I managed to buy back some new ones and keep the heard at "12" Not to bad. Randy

I have encouraged her to stop by from time to time and, when She is ready, to look in here for her next guitar. I am figuring a nice Legend or Balladeer for that great deep body steel string sound I know she is heading toward. I am sure you guy's will fix her up with something nice if She is interested right? Joined: March 2006 Posts: 8 Location: Ramsey, NJ | Hi, Everyone - Thanks to all for the warm welcome and the advice. And to Northcountry for the unexpected, easy sale of my Ovation Classic. It should be in his hands by next weekend! As I told him, I am happy that it's going to someone who can bring it out into the spotlight at last. I have been slowly but surely getting back into playing...both my classical pieces and some new contemporary, folk and bluegrass-style pieces. It's such a thrill. And boy, does it help bust the stress bubble after coming home from work! If time allows, I'll try to find a good teacher in the Spring or Summer. I'll most definitely be popping into this site more often. Cheers!

He didn't give me any advice on how to get along with my wife, though. We also have great skiing here. I'm heading up to the cabin. I don't think I'll see over 150 inches of snow on the mountain again in my lifetime.
