Joined: March 2006 Posts: 34 | I have way too many guitars not being played so it's spring cleaning time. This 1987 #606 was hardly ever used. I have all the original papers including the original receipt (I'm the second owner but the receipt shows $1800 for the guitar and with tax the total was $1915). It was never registered. Signs of use are few. It looks new. There is one bummer, a crack in the finish near the cut away. it's only in the gloss and not the wood. Many have told me this guitar has a very similar tone to the 1537. It sounds really nice and it plays really, really nice ;) So to sum it up, the only flaw is the crack in the finish (3 inches) otherwise it looks brand new. comes with the original case in super shape. $800 + shipping. email for pictures. deadmockingbirds@gmail.com -mike

It has been 3 months since I bought a guitar for myself. OK, since I bought 2 guitars for myself.

I'm thinking the Ute, just because there were fewer made. Both have been on my short list, but I only developed a list in the last year and it keeps getting longer instead of shorter.

I paid quite a bit more than the asking price for mine and have not regretted it or had buyer's remorse for one second. Was an asking price ever determined for the UTE?

These are some of Ovations finest. It is the OFC....have one shipped to Dave until the dust settles and then have him ship it out. A great opportunity.

I can find a nicer one of those if I ever get a little breathing room between my other items on the must have list. The 87 and Ute are both on the short list. I keep promising (by my silence) to stop buying guitars for awhile, but then something else on the short list comes up. I also want a deep bowl Custom Legend.

If you really got to have both and you want to keep peace with SWMBO, perhaps you should consider selling the Custom Balladeer and Matrix to get some cash and to make room on the wall for the new O's.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12759 Location: Boise, Idaho | Thanks, Mitch. My "logic" is this: (I'm sure you appreciate that this is not very lawyerlike) my daughters were born in 83 and 87, two of the best years for Ovation, in my opinion. I would like to have one for each eventually. The Custom Balladeer was cheap and is my only shallow bowl, so it's my primary travel guitar. The Matrix was my first Ovation, bought by my soon to be wife and me so that I could play it in our wedding. It needs to stay even if my wife doesn't care about it's sentimental value. Both of them won't bring in half what the 87 costs. So I'm just doomed to keep acquiring. I also have more wall space available if my wife doesn't force us to downsize.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12759 Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm trying to do my part. Besides me, I've got 2 daughters with Ovations (if you count a Celebrity Deluxe and an Applause) and 2 friends that I've talked into buying 3 Ovations. Actually I didn't have to do much talking, they just came over to the house. This group is like the audience on a game show, cheering someone on to spend someone else's money. I'd love to buy the 87 and the Ute, but haven't seen pictures of either and doubt I can get both or maybe neither right now. If we ever get a Northwest OFC jam put together and it's at our cabin, I'll try to bring the whole herd. I'm going to be in Portland over Memorial Day, but I have to haul a van load of my daughter's stuff back. Link up with Waskel and let him play that 1537, so he sees what we're talking about.
