Joined: September 2003 Posts: 171 Location: Indiana | This is a bummer of a post for me but here she goes.... First...I hope everyone here has been well. It looks like the family has continued to grow. My stay here was short but I enjoyed it very much and gained a lot of knowledge and inspiration. My PC had crashed during a crazy Taylor thread and I sort of saw it as an omen that I was spending too much time online (that love-hate relationship with boards and blogs)...and not enough time practicing. So I laid off the net for a while and was amazed at how much more I got done in a day. Then my dad became ill and priorities changed as they often do in life. He passed in December and I was thankful for the time I got to spend with him. Life is so short. During this time, I really bonded with this guitar. It had a wonderful tone that even made the simple music of a beginning player sound so musical. To make a long story a little shorter, I was in an accident this winter that nearly cost me two fingers on my left hand. The fingers healed but the nerves in the tips haven't and it makes fretting difficult and frustrating. I was real down about it for a while until I saw some pics of a few young vets trying to adjust to missing limbs. I knew then it was time to move on. The bad news is I am selling this guitar and will miss it....the good news is my harmonica playing may improve ;) . This guitar is dead mint...no fret wear no marks on the top...nothing. So is the deluxe case. The bridge was replaced by the factory right after I got it because it flew off one day while on its stand. After reading some posts, I am aware of this happening to at least two other FD-14's which concerned me a little but luckily it was on the stand and was able to fly away from the body of the guitar. It also came off clean...no top damage. The boys at the repair shop at Ovation are very good and I am sure the new bridge is more secure than the original. I could pass it off as new but I'd want to know it if I was buying it. It wouldn't change my mind about this guitar though after seeing and hearing it. I had a friend try to trade me his Taylor  . I am asking $1200 for this guitar and that includes shipping and insurance. If it was in a store you could not tell it from new....it has never even seen a pick! I do NOT want to put this guitar on ebay. It is special to me and I want to offer it to people who love this guitar first. I prefer a cashiers check to avoid fees but I understand a buyer takes a risk so I will accept paypal and I am a verified member. My addy is crewchief1981@earthlink.net ...write if you have questions or concerns. I will post a pic from the gallery but I can take as many as you like. have a great summer, guys...I've missed ya. mark ps ..this is supposed to be #50 of 50. It had no certificate so I am not sure how to tell unless it is in the serial number. ![]()

If I were in your shoes (easy to "say", I know) and loved that guitar that much, I'd consider one other option: Adapt. Investigate alternate tunings that would minimize/simplify your left-hand fingerings . . . . . and/or . . jack that action up just a wee bit and start investigating playing slide. It may not be what you were once capable of doing, but at least you're still playing (and still playing THAT guitar). Hell, it might end up being "new" and "fun". Anything's Possible (except striking a match on a bar of soap).

It is truly a beautiful, clean looking guitar. Very distinctive - it's got it's own look and sound. You'll find a loving owner for it here. Wishing you the best,

Not the same as classical, but you could still make some beautiful music. Sorry to hear of your struggles Bro...hang in there... and I would agree with the sentiment of others here... my Legend has become a part of me, I could never sell it...don't lose anymore parts brother! Peace.

There are a few people in the OFC that have played but not cared for the sound of the FD14.....so maybe Mark is moving out the guitar with the most appeal (and not necessarily his favorite). Sometimes choosing which guitar to sell also becomes an issue of which one might move the quickest or garner the best price. Just food for thought. As someone who currently has the bum left hand with two numb fingers, I can totally sympathize with Mark about how discouraging and frustrating it is to not be able to play with full enjoyment. The G-Band idea is a good one. I am awaiting the arrival of one that Templeman was having sent out to me (bless his soul!) I can't wait for it to show up.

I know your recovery is slow and you feel you will never be the same. Cliff's idea of slide is an excellent one. I have grown to love and appreciate slide more now than ever. If you don't now you may if you take it up. Also like someone else said, these types of injuries take time, you could regain full use and then regret the day you sold you awesome guitar. Look at Tony Iommi (SP?) from Black Sabbeth. He cut off the tips of his fret finger on a saw or something like that. He was detemined and made plastic tips to compensate. I could not imagine how hard that was to get use to. I am not saying it will be easy, but it would be well worth a try and then if you still feel like selling, at least you made all possible attempts. Whatever your decision, I wish you the best.

What does a Norseman have to do to get a set of G-Bands?! I've been waiting for the OFC store to open, but no luck there. Looking for a 6 and 12 string set. Any help would be appreciated mUCHO gRANDE' as MisterGolf007 would say.

Temp said he was sending me out a set about 3 weeks ago but I haven't received anything yet so I am assuming they are still somewhere in transit.

Joined: September 2003 Posts: 171 Location: Indiana | Wow guys...this was a bit overwhelming. I appreciate all of the encouragement. Unfortunately I had a lot of off time during my injury and accumulated too many bills. I may keep my 1116 as sort of a rehab tool...plus it looks great in my living room. I'm not down anymore and have found one solution. when I think about it, I pull my harp out and it makes me realize there are many ways to enjoy music. I want this to go to someone who appreciates Ovations and loves playing them. It's like passing on good karma. I am at work and will check back in a few. thanks again guys...you are a great bunch!

Keep working on your physical therapy and you may get most of that feeling back. Same goes for Stephen.

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 1330 Location: ms | Mark1960,I agree with Cliff, don`t give up. I started having problems with arthritis about eight years ago, i tought my playing days were over. I still have it but with the use of open tunings, meds, heat and ice i get by. I can`t play four or five hours a nite like i used to, but thats part of what led to my trouble anyway. Check out Dan Fogelbergs website, he all but cut his pinky on his left hand off. He also had no feeling in that finger. It took months of playing a gut string and piano but he came back. Django Reinhart only had the use of two fingers on his left hand and hes thought of as one of the greatest ever. I know from my on hand problems this can get you down, but if you want to keep playing you will find a way. In my case it was almost a blessing, i spent more time with my wife and kids, i think my playing got better in the long run with open tunings(some people would differ with that). Good luck and God Bless!

I am just at one of those points in life where you make a few short term sacrifices. Thanks for the post...I appreciate it. You too, Cliff! (I always thought you would be a fun guy to slam down a few with). The guitar may be sold... I'll keep ya posted. peace

Joined: September 2003 Posts: 171 Location: Indiana | Let's try this again.... Sorry for lack of update on this but after posting originally, I had a couple of offers and was preparing to sell it. I had not played it for a couple of months because of the hand injury I mentioned and was horrified when I was wiping it down and noticed a slight separation starting to form between the top and fretboard. Anyway, the kind folks at the mothership have taken care of it and it is as good as new. From a couple of posts in the archives and I my experiences I think there were some bonding issues on a few of these guitars but I am very confident that they have been corrected on this guitar. I actually like the replacement bridge better than the original (nicer piece of ebony) and have had no issues with it in the year it has been on. I am confident there will be no more with the fretboard either. If it doesn't sell, I'll hold it for a while for a friend who is interested but it is available if interested. $1200 shipping and insurance included, OBO paypal accepted. You can check my ebay feedback under markw4t45 . I'll take any pics you request. It looks, plays brand new. peace
