Joined: September 2006 Posts: 1 Location: Birmingham, Alabama | For sale/for trade is a first year model 1537, 1981 Ovation "Elite" acoustic guitar. This model was created because of high demand for a spruce top Adamas. Natural finish spruce top, non-cutaway, w/ floral design and lateral soundholes, very good to excellent condition. Stereo acoustic/electric. High quality Adamas pre-amp and pickup, tone and volume (wooden walnut knobs). Among the best amplified acoustics I've heard. The neck is like a '57 reissue strat, with a soft "V" and nice taper up the neck. Excellent big sound strummed and fast solo playing are both strong points. I also fingerpick a good bit and love the sound I've always gotten. Unplugged tone and volume are leagues above newer Ovations. Build quality and craftsmanship are excellent The sound is big and full, it projects, and has a rich warmth with great string separation. Great sounding and playing durable stage guitar with definite "living room" appeal. I have my eye on more gear and am motivated to finally part with it. Could be open to trades, interested in Gibson electrics or other set neck guitars. Pls email for questions. $700 OBO, paypal or US postal money order. Digital pics available. Thanks for looking, Keith

The first year they came out was 1983, with the 2 prototypes that went to cwkII and Glen Campbell being built in 1982. By the way, Bill's always maintained that the only difference between his 1537 and Glen's is the direction the fret markers point at the 12th fret. Not true. The epaulets are different as well.

Joined: January 2005 Posts: 640 Location: boulder | Hey, I am sorry. I should have been more clear. Keith emailed the pics to me. There doesn't seem to be a crack anywhere, looks sweet. slight wear on lower epaulet, slight wear on 2nd or 3rd fretboard. s/n I think means it is early 1984. I am not sure how I found ad/post. just trying to help. never met keith before. seems honest enough. peace mike

There are no pictures posted, email Keith to get them (or Tony, or Mike, I suppose). The Gear Page doesn't have photo galleries and there's no links in the post to any. Here\'s Keith\'s post on The Gear Page.

If you are looking for a 1537, grab this one now before Tony adds it to the foster care program. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Joined: June 2006 Posts: 659 Location: Hiram, Georgia | Thank you for the sentiments, This purchase in a way is the conclusion of my quest for a ute that I had purchased about a month ago from the XYZ Music Co. The top was caved in about an inch, and the fretboard was curved down into the top. :( I had a awful sinking feeling in my heart when I opened the case. The horror of that experience caused all my gas for a ute to evaporate. I'm really starting to feel better now. This guitar is simply beautiful, the natural spruce top has mellowed to a rich golden hue, very organic, the picturec don't do it justice. Cheered up now :D
