Just came across these on ebay.

1537 Natural
This looks pretty nice but has considerable fret wear.

1537 in Black
I think this one has been on ebay a couple of times before. Also has considerable fret wear.

After all these years, 1537 still stands out as one of Ovations finest efforts. Dave

Agreed. While I play my 87C a good portion of the time, I still pick up my 1537 and am always amazed at the wonderful sound I get from it.... I'm not planning on ever parting with it ("til death do us part"?)

Amazingly, I have sold off my beloved 1547 and all of the 1537's that I have owned over the years.

The '87 collectors is just the best of both models IMHO and I found that I played it the most...so off the others went.

There's a part of me that envious of people who can sell guitars. By and large, most of my guitars came to me in very special ways, so it's very difficult to sell them. There are whole stories regarding most of my guitars and only one or two don't have stories attached to them.

I agree about just how good the 87C is....

I'm in the same boat, Paul. I tend to prefer the sound and playability of my 1537 over my 87C, but each has its own merits. They each are promised to my daughters who were born the same years as the guitars were made.

Mark, you have an EXCELLENT reason to keep them both.

My problem is that there are so many flavors of ice cream out there that I want to try them all!

Is there a better way to remove the green stuff by the frets? :p

Hey guys!

My wife and I just returned home from a tough road trip to the cities. Been at the Veteran's Hospital with my father. He has colon cancer...or I should say (Trusting God)...he HAD colon cancer. He had a portion of his colon removed and is stable now (other health issues have played a factor as well). He is very short of breath, but was breathing when I left this morning!

Anyways, I found I was outbid by $5.00 on a 1716 while I was gone...actually I am relieved, as I had some reservations. I will definitely keep an eye on the 1537...something tells me that mine will not be the only eyes watching, but we'll see what happens.

Have to go now and unpack....

Those were just excuses to buy them. Actually, I didn't notice until after I had the 1537 that the next "must have" guitar, the 87 and the 1537 matched our daughters' birth years. My wife quit listening to my rationalizations by the time I came up with that one, anyway. My 19 year old daughter liked it, though. I'm still working on the 30th anniversary (next year).

Norsey,

Good luck on the 1537. On a different day, I might fight you for one, but I'm not quite in the market at the moment.

Hope for you to see your dad's quick recovery - we'll be praying for you all!

Hey, what part of Minnesota are you in? My brother is over in Eau Claire, Wisconsin right now with his fiance. We'll be flying into St. Paul in January for the wedding.

I don't know. Norsey, are you in on the natural? If not, and it doesn't bid up much, I may have to put my life on the line here...

Anyone?

I've had my natural for a week now, I'm floored everytime I play it! Got to get them in the family.

I don't know what's up with the black one, it keeps showing up.

Less than 4 hours to go on the first one. Someone's going to get a great deal.

What would be the cost to refret, as those frets are divoted. That would have to be taken into consideration of price, no?

I had a CL refretted a few years ago by a company in Seattle - I think it cost less than $100 altogether.

Looks to be the only major issue...pretty nice one.

Interesting how he wore the frets but the board looks to be in fine shape. Dave

Guitar sold - looks to be a great price. Maybe too early to say, but I might get my hands on this one...
