So, if you change them, the Ping drill holes are not the same the Schallers need - you will have six drill holes that you have to seal, if that bothers you. There are also Schaller Tuners with a pin (without a seperate screw to fix them), but I don't know if Ping ever made tuners with pins. For best solution - in the case, your Celebrity has Pings - I would call the mothership. They have Pings in black. Kurt

Could you clerify what holes I would have to fill in?? (sorry for the stupidity) and what are you referring to when you said "the mothership"? sorry again..and thanks for the help!

Easiest would be to just swap the buttons. Of you are going to install complete new tuners then best if you can find some with the same mounting screw locations. If not, just plug the old holes with wood putty, dab on a little dark stain, and drill pilot holes for the new ones. But I would take it slow. Dave

I though it was kind of "hot swapable" I know im not going to like gold machines, but i guess I can just go with the buttons...that just means that the rest is still gonna be gold... is painting an option?

I'm not sure the look you are going for, but I had a guitar once with gold buttons that were pretty badly tarnished. I covered the (both) "faces" of the buttons with black electrical tape, leaving the rest of the gold exposed. It actually looked kind of cool. Dave

The holes on my 1112 would match the screw-hole location on the Schallers, but all my other tuners look just like the Pings you got. [only none of them are Pings... I don't think... And I ain't looking again!]

(even though im a little confused) i never guessed in a million years it was gonna be this hard to find black tuners to fit my guitar without drilling...

Or (my personal favorite) break-off a toothpick... and stain it. But the next problem would be "What is the diameter of the pin itself?" [You'd think something like that would be a standard size... But experience shows me that things never work out so nicely...]

Your pic shows the Ping screws at '6 oclock' when viewed attached, whereas MWoody's will be at '8 oclock'. So you'll need to drill to use these. You should be able to find Pings that match exactly. Remember Arthur's comment too; the shafts SHOULD be the same diameter (I think most modern tuners are 10mm shafts), but they could differ if you are buying non-exact replacements. Or you could just change the buttons... It's not as difficult as perhaps all this discussion makes it sound. Drilling screwholes is no big deal (a modelling pin drill held in the palm of your hand; not a power tool, but an old fashioned 'twisty' drill) would work well here. Drilling out tuner shafts is a bigger job, needing power tools, a steady hand and the guitar firmly clamped. There's a risk here of chipping the surrounding headstock wood if you aren't careful. I would live with the gold Pings in that case unless you are confident. HW

There are a plethora of tuner configurations out there but the accepting hole in the peghead is usually just under 3/8" (it's in millimeters). Watch Fleabay and the right ones will show up.
