I currently own 2 Alvarez Dreadnoughts the best of which is the RD20S, a lower end model but with solid spruce top and fat, solid sound. Nice guitar. I have a Washburn classical that is so sweet it will make your teeth rot! I have a mini-6 string, Ukelele-size by Carlo Robelli - cheap but the little thing plays great and is so much fun because it's so tiny - my guitar playing friends cannot put the thing down once they get it in their hands. Years ago I had a colleague that was the most awesome guitar player I've ever met, personally. Young fellow but man was he good. He invited me to have lunch at his home nearby one day at work and promised to play for me, so I went. I don't remember what brand the guitar was but among his vast collection, the boy picked up a black, deep bowlback and worked up something latin sounding with all 10 fingers running up and down the fretboard while laughing and talking at the same time. I'm telling you, the boy was good. Maybe it was an Ovation guitar but I don't know. The reason I have joined this forum is that I would like to know if I can expect any low end Ovations that are in my price range to produce deeper, fatter tone quality than my spruce dreadnoughts? If anyone has a deep bowl model that they can let go for $200 or less, that isn't a project or damaged etc.. I would like to try one out. I'm watching several listings in Ebay right now. I hope to hear from some of you. Thanks much. I'll browse some of your topics and see what's going on here.

It can be done. There is also risk and learning curve along the way. I obtained it and was able to sell it to a friend that is more frugal than I am and needed it. For Dreadnought-edness... You need to try an LX. You should attend as many OFC mini gatherings as possible and see what is out there!

There are deals there that can happen...just be patient and dilligent in your searching. Welcome to the club... Blessings...

I got this one for 250 a while back. It's a little dinged up, but plays and sounds real good, with nice frets. If you can live with some scratches and bumps, USA guitars can be had in your price range, just be patient.

It's the beater guitar that stays out for the kids and their friends to bang on. From 5+ feet away it looks awesome. Up close, it has it's share of laquer cracks and the elctronics were pulled. BUT ... it sounds great. In fact, my son liked it so much he recorded his latest two songs using the guitar.

Has small crack in the surface near the bridge which does not affect sound quality (see pic). Probably needs new strings as well, but sounds great. Good guitar for learning on. 150 w/o case, 200 with.

I think you can get a new deep bowl Applause anytime for $199. Like everyone else said, if you have time, wait for a used USA made Ovation or, if that doesn't work, try a Celebrity. There must be enough around you that you could try some out.

And FREE shipping. I have never played an Applause, but Hey... I own a Johnson wood box! ($129 new! I paid $66 with shipping and a case, and it actually sounds Nice! But that was before I bought my Balladeer. After that...) But the list says it's guaranteed. (Once they take-out S/H) Just a thought... But I would wait for a Beater 1112.

Aluminum Fretboard, so it can't be re-fretted. But how often do you do that? By the time you wear this one out, you may find the guitar-of-your-dreams... 70\'s Matrix

Arthur - man I wish I'd been around to bid on that Matrix - however, hopefully, I'm working on something with Chris on his Matrix project. The Matrix suits me because of the 4 acoustics I own, my favorite is the Washburn classical with 2" nut. Matrix has a wider nut/fretboard along with the deep bowl, right? Is the top solid spruce or plywood? For my needs, a Matrix will be just right. Thanks again men!
