I'm looking to sell a guitar that my brother gave me. It's an Ovation 1115-4. I'm including the hard case, a wall hanging bracket, and the Dean Markley pick-up that goes with the guitar. My brother used this guitar in the recording studio on a couple of his albums and other artists used it on their albums as well. This guitar has toured the world, but it's not playing any music just sitting in my closet.
Part of my problem is that I don't know how much this guitar is worth...I figured some of you here could tell me it's value even if you weren't interested in buying it.
I look forward to hearing from you.

What are you asking for it? Is the binding separating at the waist?

The binding is starting to separate. As I said...I'm not sure what to ask. I know there is the actual value of the guitar, but I'm also trying to consider the previous ownership of the guitar...my brother. He's been nominated for over 3 Grammy's and has platinum and gold records and this guitar was used on some of those albums. I know it truly may not add anything to the value of the guitar, but I think it should :p

Mmmm... Not likely

Are we talking about playing the guitar, or a Wall Hanging?
Is it signed? Is your brother John Lennon, Jim Croce, Cat Steven, Bob Seeger, or anyone interesting?
Do you have documentation? If so, this probably ain't the place to sell it.

Point taken...as I said, it's what I think...not definitive. He's no John, Jim, Cat, or Bob, but he's interesting...and considering his music it's even more interesting that he used this guitar. That's neither here nor there...is the consensus the guitar is worth between $400 - $500 just as the guitar (no emotional/celebrity value)?

Brother is lead singer/lead guitar for Ministry. He never really said anything about the purple lining.

The strings are strung rickenbacker style.

". . is the consensus the guitar is worth between $400 - $500 just as the guitar (no emotional/celebrity value)? . . "

I was basing that on a "pristene" specimen . . .

I don't wanna be accused of being a member of the "PricePolice", but with the wear/tear on it, I (personally) wouldn't pay more than $200-250 for it (but that's just me).

I actually find the case more intriguing than the guitar . . .

No kidding? I had a friend who was into them for a while. A little to 'metal' for me, but hey, ice cream. Good luck with the sale; I really do think that purple lining is cool.

I've got one of those purple lined cases that I'll sell for the right price. As for the 1115, I expect the market value is somewhere in between the low end and high end discussed above.

Oh man. I just noticed now how the strings are backward. That's called 'Rickenbacker Style'? Weird.

I don't think that's an industry term but Rick' 12 strings are strung that way.

If I bought a Rick, 1st thing I'd do is re-string it.
