Includes original case and a NOS case cover and documentation since I bought it in Jan. 1990. It was sent to the Mothership last year for the "SlotHead Reunion" and recieved a clean bill of health. If it doesn't sell here it'll go on the bay with a higher Reserve. Thanks... ![]()

What a evening by the fire this could be...#45 original, the 47RI #3, and the OFC #7. Yes, three great guitars, yet distinctive. Like driving a Shelby Cobra or Morgan 4 (#45), my Alfa Veloce Spyder (47RI), and my Mustang GT conv (OFC). Anyone want to buy three 1687's, a 1685 12-str, and a 1688 12-str? $9600 plus shipping for all five as a group. That is how good this offer is!

Well, I for one will be waiting with popcorn in hand as the drama unfolds: Colin, best wishes for your sale and I wish I could be the fortunate one: I'm just overjoyed to have my family in one piece and some excellent guitars to play for them now with a great 1685-8 on the way! Boy oh boy, this is going to be great! :D  ;)

They also replaced the Elixir's you see in the pics with 'Daddio's'. THAT oughta be worth 8700... don'cha think? GGG, These pics were taken at the Conyers, GA. WELCOME Station on a Sunday afternoon. While I was there a local cop pulled in and asked what I was doing. When I told him I was taking pics of my guitar, he said "the Welcome station is CLOSED!" I said "Good thing we aren't having any visitors, HUH!". And they wonder why...

Joined: January 2005 Posts: 4903 Location: Phoenix AZ | I spent a lot of time yesterday thinking about (and playing) the reissues vs. the original. And specifically why would someone pay twice as much for an original. Just to say that the original sounds better is too easy. Maybe the RI sounds just as good in 30 years. But for me the RI is "too perfect". The cool thing about the original, other than the fact that there are only 34 of them in existence, is that playing in brings to me all kinds of visions of the guys building them back in '76. And they probably had very little idea exactly what the hell they were building. These were a bunch of wood workers and Charlie/Bill comes in and says "Here, you're gonna glue braces to this carbon fiber sandwich board and then bore a bunch of holes in it and decorate it with gay fig leaves, epoxy it to a bowl decorated with glitter paint, and then slap on a walnut fingerboard with a headstock that looks like it was carved by the coffin makers." Uh, sure boss .... We'll never know for sure but I wonder how many of the factory guys at the time actually thought this was a stupid idea. The cool thing for me, is that these 34 originals are NOT perfect. A little off here, that's a little out of whack there, etc. I bet no two are exactly the same. But that's what makes them so cool. The reissue (and especially the OFC version) is a wonderful, wonderful guitar in every respect. In hind sight, this is just me personally, but I would have rather that they made the reissues as 'relics'. It would have been cool to 'age' the guitar in a way that it REALLY was ideitical to the originals. But anyway, the reissues are themselves great guitars and worth WAY more than the selling price. And original #45 ??? Hell, $9k is almost an insult for such a piece of history. One of the very few, if not only, ovation/adamas guitar that will surely go up in value over the years. Six months ago #45 would have been mine. It needs to belong within the OFC. Dave
